Well, the 720p is from the UE DVD master, which is zoomed in.

If there is more information in the frame, then it's a new source.

I do not have my boxset at home right now so cannot check but can post caps from it tomorrow

I've seen screen caps of HDTV rips of Goldeneye before, and they were all the cropped version.

But just in case, here's some good comparison shots:

The intro credits are a dead giveaway. The font is different, and in the cropped version, none of the credits stray very far from the center of the screen.

Wow, you can really tell how good the HDTV looks!

What about the sound? There was talk of the Cinema DTS files.

Yep, that's the same HDTV that's been around for ages. Cropped =(

Every once in a while, Netflix streaming will have an uncropped version of it, but nobody's capturing from Netflix.

This is not the noise covered 720p this is a beautiful 1080p

Interesting. Do you plan to share it, dvdmike? The DTS discs may be synced to it for quite a presentation. Any hard subs?

Awesome, looks like a better encoded hdtv source that would only need minimal color tweaking to remove the UE imposed teal etc. The cropping is regrettable but the image is far superior to the rehashed DNR'd BD transfer.

It's the way to go minus the teal, but that's an easy fix

Fantastic that you're willing to share. Thanks mate. Good to hear about the lack of forced subs.

About the color timing, there is tael but I wouldn't try to remove it too aggressive. The master for the SE DVD and BD is a bit too red-pushed I think.

^Agreed with Aluminum Falcon.  The SE reeks of early DVD color timing.  A proper balance, IMO, would probably be somewhere inbetween.

Would definitely be interested in this Mike! Nice one!

In what ways is the WOWOW HDTV of DAF better than the BD?  I know that some prefer the HDTV, but I've just synced them and can't see much difference, aside from the fact that there might be a bit more DNR on the BD.  I can post screenshots if necessary.

I realize that this is technically a LD thread, but it seems to be where all the Bond-related discussion goes.  Perhaps the thread title should be changed to read simply Bond Preservations?

Anybody watch their SE DVD's lately? I found another rotter. The Man With The Golden Gun breaks up severely past the layer change, to the point of being unwatchable.

I've watched or scanned though my other SE discs in the past year, and the early THX of Goldfinger had a similar issue with the full frame layer not being playable at all.

Are you sure this isn't the known mastering error with this dvd:

"Chapter 21 at the beginning of the car chase (81:30), the picture will pixelate and freeze up many DVD players. This was a mastering error and has been fixed. Supposedly, the fixed copies have *** around the title on the white sealing sticker on the top."

I have all the THX dvds as well as the SE dvds (took me a while to find a copy of Moonraker which hadn't rotted).  I have backups of Moonraker and TSWLM, but this is a reminder to backup the rest.

I'll have to try it on some other players then. Thanks for the info!

My original dvd had this problem, but it wouldn't play on any of my dvd players.  I would just skip to chapter 21 and see if the corruption starts at 81:30 (an evening car chase IIRC).

I bought another copy from amazon, asking the seller to check that chapter 21 played before buying.  Got lucky with my first enquiry, so I don't expect the corrected version is rare.

Silver that is an error that was never addressed, along with the OHMSS accidental minor edits found on the SE DVD.

I got the whole set recently in decent condition and found I could play back all the discs, even the ones like TMWTGG that are supposedly pressed wrong in places.

None are rotted, and neither is my THX DVD of TSWLM. Maybe you just got some bad discs, but then again they seemed to have lots of trouble with making these.

I now own the remastered NSNA and Casino Royale LDs and have the remastered LTK MGM disc on the way to marathon just before the holidays. I will post in here with results, but these should play exactly like their 1st DVD iterations.

It played fine on an older machine I don't have anymore. I had a similar problem with the old MGM DVD of Yellow Submarine, yet it played fine on a PC.

I first read about the error on The Man With The Golden Gun here:

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/2003384-post1.html

The same page refers to corrections to the OHMSS dvd as not confirmed, while it states for TMWTGG:

"You can call MGM Customer Service to get your copy exchanged."

Anyway, I bought another copy (also Region 1) and it doesn't skip at 81:30.
