What do you HATE about the EU?

Author
Time

It's time to spew up all the vitriol you possess in regards to the EU, either in its whole or in its parts.

In my case ...

All the prequelisms that have infected stories and eras that aren't a part of the PT era

The New Jedi Order era

The Legacy era

All the stupid Sith Wars and the various novel/comic series devoted to them and their lame characters

The two-dimensional characterization of the Sith in the modern EU

A lack of parallel universe stories

A lack of diversity in regards to philosophical/religious/political/moral beliefs among the Jedi & Sith

Author
Time

Stereotypical Sith Lords and no real variety in the force (it exists, but we don't see much of it).

Rip-offs of other characters (ex. the immortal emperor in the Old Republic who is a rip-off of Palpatine).

Along with the above is cloning of characters.

Repeats of basic plot points, such as an infinite supply of superweapons and re-occurrence of the Sith who had been thought to be extinct.

Trying to tie things into existing canon too much.

Shrinking the Star Wars universe (making every random person we see on the street join the rebels at some point or have connections to a major character).

Lots of other stuff.

We have like infinity of these threads already.  Gosh!

EU Sith Lords remind me of Star Trek Aliens...basically a human with something attached to his face or head.

The Millennium Falcon's telescope that can see several light years, penetrate the treetops of Kashyyk, and see that Lumpy is in trouble in the Nother World in the book "The Wookiee Storybook".

Also, the Millennium Falcon's Explorer Craft from the same book.

^Gosh that sounds stupid!

To my list I add the Ewok movies and the Star Wars Holiday Special.

This and the ever increasing dual identities starting to surface.  Double Gosh!

Aural sensors. Sound in space is supposed to be "Star Wars physics".

Jedi constantly becoming Sith. It's like Martin Luther King becoming a white supremecist.

Undermining the movies. Can the Sith and Empire please die?

Canon Nazis. In many places it's become impossible to have a movies-only conversation and Disney has received death threats for contradicting the EU.

I prefer to think of the "sound in space" thing as artistic license put in there to placate the audience, not actual in-universe phenomenon.

I still agree that the aural sensors are stupid, though.

The death of Anakin Solo.  Invalidated Chewie's sacrifice

The death of Jacen Solo and the whole prequel retread Darth Caedus thing.

The death of Mara Jade Skywalker at Jacen Solo's hands.

I admit i kind of like Kotor II not as good as part one but i hated that it introduced that every Sith has to have a double bladed lightsaber like Maul, whom Lucas stole the idea from Veitch or Anderson cannot remember whose idea it was for Exar-Kun to have a double bladed weapon but it was not red.

Surprised the reprints and digital version did not have it recolored to red.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

It's a children's storybook from 1979, for crying out loud! Cut it a little slack? That version of how Han and Chewie met probably doesn't jive with the current version either. ;)

I think the book may have inspired the escape pod the Hasbro Falcon has.

Would you rather have Gungan movies? ;)

Battle For Endor is as cheery as Alien 3. Who knew George could do dark?

I don't even want to think about Gungan movies. I like how bad things did happen in the Ewok movies, and I think they were good for children's films, but I still don't like them.

That explains it a bit...

If there's one thing I respect about the current EU, it's the lack* of Lucas-style revisionism in regard to their older novels, short stories, and comics. I'd pull my hair out if the bits pertaining to the Clone Wars in the Thrawn Trilogy were rewritten to match the crap in AOTC & ROTS or if the Sith in the TOTJ comics were prequelized.

*For the most part. There are a few exceptions, though.

"Sith is an idea". Sith is NOT an idea, but that line of Kreia's has indocrinated to TFN to point that they want all villains with sabers to be called "Sith".

It is not the obvious similarity to Palpatine that bothers me. It is the fact that he is immortal and can go into other people's bodies. The whole JK storyline is pointless because of the later.

Oh yes. I obviously hate Dark Empire.

 Yes.

That many believe TFU to be an even halfway decent story is disturbing on a Lovecraftian horror level.

The only thing I hate about the EU are the forced ties between the OT and PT. Granted, some things deserve exploration (Leia's relationship with Bail Organa), but some later books have contradictory stuff just to give the OT a closer tie to the prequels. For instance, there exists one EU novel out there where it's stated that R2 recorded that conversation Anakin and Padme had about his nightmares, and then he plays it for Luke.

R2's kind of nosey, if that's true. I mean, unnecessarily recording a private conversation? That's kinda weird.

I’m just here because I’m driving tonight.

No taxation without representa... oh that EU.

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

This is the primary reason I don't like the modern EU.

Was Artoo even present when that scene took place?
