I just watched the start of it and it looked like there were some artifacts in the opening logos, not that it matters.

If you are talking about flickering, or halos around the "Village Roadshow" logo, they are also on DVD...

Yes, the Village Roadshow logo looks like crap.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

I really liked this presentation of the film, but since you asked, here's the one issue I noticed:

Some of the shots in the Matrix during Cypher's betrayal scene have minor banding. It's not that big of a deal, but it becomes really noticeable in the two close-ups of Trinity at 1:30, watch the shadow on her face.

There may be other issues, but when I watched the film it was for entertainment purposes and not quality control.

“That’s impossible, even for a computer!”

“You don't do ‘Star Wars’ in Dobly.”

Just a reminder: I will release a version 2.0, but apart improve video quality, I'd like to drop all commentaries but the main one, and replace them with the german soundtrack. So, if someone is willing to share the german AC3 soundtrack - better if from BD - it will be really appreciated!

I have to assume this is on myspleen. Since apparently there's no way to get access there for us mere mortals (hint: help a brother out!) I could only locate and download "The.Matrix.Restored.Theatrical.Colors.Edition.1999.720p.BDRip.MULTIAUDIO.x264.DTS.AC3.Shadoe" which is a re-encode.

My observation is almost every time there's a "flash" (lighting, gunfire etc) that there are artifacts.

You know what? I'm happy my work is spread over the net; at the same time, it's sad that someone (me) worked to a project like this for months, and someone else "stole" its work without tell him something, or at least leave the project's original name inside the new re-encoded file... Yes, this is a free project open to all, but a simple "thematrixwhateverdescription[spoR].reencoded.by.Shadoe" will be better... as he's claiming he's my friend... who's "Shadoe"?!? If you are a forum member, please just p.m. me, so we could talk about it - don't worry, I just want some credits, not only for me, but also for the other members that helped me here, and in the other projects, as I suspect they maybe are aroud, too...

You are right; I wrote about it several times in this thread, and when this "flashes" are only 1 frame long, usually nobody will note it, and I left them there, as they are not so noticeable... but, of course, it will be better to have no artifacts at all... this is why I'd like to make a 2.0 version.

I know what you mean, but we of the OT community all know who did all the work :) To the masses a name means nothing, whether that's your own tag or someone else's.

BTW from his description:

AUDIO:

English Cinema DTS, DTS 5.1 1510kbps, 48KHz, 24bit (ONLY included in 720p/1080p releases)
English AC3 5.1 640kbps (1080p) AC3 5.1 384kbps (720p) AAC 5.1 ~384kbps (480p)
English commentary track 1, AC3 2.0 192kbps (1080p) AC3 2.0 96kbps (720p) AAC 2.0 ~96kbps (480p)
English commentary track 2, AC3 2.0 192kbps (1080p) AC3 2.0 96kbps (720p) AAC 2.0 ~96kbps (480p)
English commentary track 3, AC3 2.0 192kbps (1080p) AC3 2.0 96kbps (720p) AAC 2.0 ~96kbps (480p)
English commentary track 4, AC3 2.0 192kbps (1080p) AC3 2.0 96kbps (720p) AAC 2.0 ~96kbps (480p)
Music Only Track, AC3 2.0 192kbps (1080p) AC3 2.0 96kbps (720p) AAC 2.0 ~96kbps (480p)
English Studio Workprint Audio, AC3 2.0 192kbps (1080p) AC3 2.0 96kbps (720p) AAC 2.0 ~96kbps (480p)

Also, muxed into all releases is something that didn't come with that source BD-25, which is the English Studio WORKPRINT Audio. I synced it to this release and decided to include it because it's a different way of watching the movie and some people might appreciate the share. Don't ask where I got it, all I'll say is "Thank you" to a special friend and leave it at that :)

About scenes with artifacts: I screened the movie not twice, not three times, but FOUR times - each time revising few shots; plus, another person watched it too, and he found shots with artifacts, where I found others; at the end, only some shots were discovered by both, and the others were different... you have a very good eye! Your help will be really appreciated!

About the re-encoded track: even if I agree, that masses don't care about one or other nicknames, nonetheless some credit doesn't harm anybody, don't you think? (^^,) the fact is, if he's a friend of mine, why doesn't he contacted me before his release? I have no problem with that, but I repeat, a simple reference to the original project would have been nice - even if a .nfo or .txt with the description would have been better...

1) I know these movies like the back of my hand so once I figured out bright lights cause the artifacts all I had to do was to check those scenes that from memory should feature bright lights :P

2) I agree, of course!

But regarding the "workprint audio", was this in your release as well, or not?

3) Here is another scene where the artifacts stay on screen for many many seconds:

There is a specific thread for your request.  That is where it needs to go.

:)

Fortunately in the meantime I've been invited [ yay!! ;) ] but since it's the second time I'm being directed over there I'd like to point out the link is useless because:

a) The OP directs those interested to PM him for an invite but his PM inbox has been full since at least July.

b) The thread has been locked since late October.

In short, currently there's no way to request an invite associated with that thread.

Wasn't claiming to be your friend, but that I got the WORKPRINT audio from a special friend. Also, I apologize for not including your original info in the torrent description (which after our PM session, has already been fixed)

As Andrea already knows, I'm working on re-mastering the WORKPRINT audio and the Cinema DTS track as well (it's clipped pretty bad) using Diamond Cut DC Audio Forensics8.

Very nice thread here, BTW, and props to all that have put in some much hard work into this project (as well as others I've seen on these forums.) Am extremely happy that there are people that care about preserving somethings in the right way, instead of the crappy commercial releases.

Peace,

Jerry Shadoe

Anyone that's interested, the re-mastered english studio WORKPRINT audio (in flac and ac3) as well as the re-mastered English Cinema DTS track (both synced for this spoRv BD-25 release, are available on myspleen with extensive details as to why they were re-mastered ;)

just look for Matrix WORKPRINT and you'll find it.

I Wish I did :(

I was lucky enough to get the audio split between 3 audio CD's from a friend of mine a few years ago that actually worked on the movie. It's funny that you ask about the workprint video, because to a degree the "Z" VCD screener (released back in 99) was just that due to the fact that it was full screen instead of widescreen is a workprint video. there is proof for this made by space_ranger at this link http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/The-Matrix-35mm/topic/16098/page/4/

that VCD release is also on myspleen (although I'm working on re-mastering the video a little bit right now, already have the sound fixed - there will be two audio track once i release it; one- the VCD audio which appears to be compete 2.0 and a synced WORKPRINT audio track as well with samples of differences between source and re-master)

reason for dualaudio is that back then there was also a "Z" release but NOT in VCD format, but in .asf which contained same video as VCD (although at much lower bitrate) and workprint audio. remember it very specifically because I use to sit around with all my friends watching the movie outputted on a s-vhs cable from pc to tv and all of us laughing that the audio was unfinished. it contained dialog and sound effects, as well as most background music, but was missing all foreground music and songs to the point that when trinity is sneaking up on neo in the club (at beginning of movie) you could hear her footsteps, people conversating in background, the flicker of the zippo lighter but no club music. It was an awesome way to experience the matrix the first time before any of us ended up seeing it at the theater.  anyway, nostalgia is settling in and i'm rambling now LOL

Thanks to jerryshadoe, the fixed DTS cinema and the workprint soundtracks are available, and they will be used for v.2.0; he's working on an isolated score, and it will be included too.

Now, talking about sound, I just need the german soundtrack from BD...

Dunno, re-encoding the DTS track hardly seems optimal to me. Maybe it should be released in FLAC as well :P

I agree. Don't get me wrong, even though it's re-encoded it sounds way better than it did, but an option for FLAC would be nice as well. Will put it together for release, when I have the isolated score track finished ;)

EDIT: thanx to DoomBot, I now have the original source PCM for the Cinema track and will be working on that next couple of days. Still has clipping issues (although only half of how much was in DTS I had to work with before) but will sound better once finished because I'm working with better source

EDIT2: After extensive searching on the internet, managed to find a "Complete Score" edition of the score in FLAC and since the music score track on the BD-25 was only an ac3 at 192kbps, will be re-doing the score track from scratch. Also have the OST in FLAC, plus have tracked down any other music used in the movie but not on anything officially released to do with the Matrix (like the song on neo's headphones at beginning of movie) Once finished, will encode into a PCM or FLAC /possibly make a lossy ac3 version at higher bitrate (still unsure, will see as project moves forward)

will post updates as i move things along ;)

UPDATES:

jerryshadoe kindly sent me the german 5.1 soundtrack; I managed to find out the german subtitles, but the file is only a .srt - maybe CatBus could convert it to make it looks like the other ones he sent me...

I managed to use the HDTV to fix the shots with artifacts; it's quite *simple* (cough, cough...) - just overlay the rescaled HDTV on the upscaled DVD, and it's done... well, if the settings are the same for the whole movie, it could be defined simple, but actually, there are MANY different settings that changes scene by scene... at the moment, I found only one that is almost perfect, and it took a lot of time to find it... I strongly hope that just few settings could be used, or it will take ages to find out more than few ones...

By the way, here you are a preliminary test; top, upscaled DVD, bottom, upscaled DVD with HDTV rescaled on top of it (click for larger image):

(if you can't see the image: http://s27.postimg.org/e4zlsc6w1/matrix_083217.jpg)

OK, not blu-ray quality, but better than upscaled DVD...

Nice! Are there any obvious seams playing that shot in motion?
