It's an encoding error - so why would those encoded seperatly from your release have it? It's possible that other NTSC releases like Japan use the same encoded video stream - but for PAL they have to be encoded seperatly. I've only watched all the way through Star Wars so far, Empire and Jedi I'll watch when I have time. I checked all the way through chapter 26 and it's fine.

OK, OK, so it's not on the PAL version. Geez...
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. I have a region 1 version and I had no problems with it. True that Tarkins lines are a little muffled, but that seems to be a problem with the audio being damaged perhaps.

Don't you folks pay attention to the official Lucasfilm statements? It's SUPPOSED to block up and freeze your player!

Sheesh! :roll eyes:

JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

the freezing and crashing was an artistic decission I guess. I watched mine very closely last night and I don't seem to have any blocking freezing shutting down the dvd player problems. in chapter 26 tarkins voice does get quieter like some mention, I dont find it to noticable unless Im listening for it. no blocking up there either. freezes a second when changes layers after tarkin and darth are talking and he says "she lied" part. overall the movie seemed a little dark but that could be my tv. also I did notice which I think is my dvd player or tv on 2 occassions when c3po tells the storm trooper he was gonna take R2 for maintinence the background seems wavy and also when luke and leia are on the bridge before the swing across whe they are shown from far away frokm across the bridge. Like I said I don't think these are the disks cause I dont see it when I pay it on the computer

So it's pretty much confirmed, then. ANH 2004 has a bunch of problems/issues/flaws/deliberate creative decisions/whatever you wanna call 'em.

How about the other discs? I'm of course hoping those are fine, but I'd like to know if anyone's come across any real problems with them. And please, no matters of preference. I don't like the pink flashes during the gunbattle on the blockade runner or the newly-rotoscoped lightsabers in some shots, but I wouldn't consider those to be "problems." I'm referring to any more technical issues with the audio or video. Anyone?

I'm watching through ESB 2004 right now.. so far, so good. <keeps his fingers crossed>

I didn't have any issues with chapter 26, but was wondering if anybody else is having the problem I am with ANH. As they are escaping from the Death Star and fending off the TIEs, every time there is a shot of a TIE fighter flying past the ship, it is surrounded by a faint but still plainly visible red or green bounding box. I can't count on both hands the number of times I've seen this movie and I never noticed any artifacts like that before. Do other people's DVDs have this too or is it another issue with some copies of the disc?

And also, are my ears deceiving me, or did they change that crazy noise that Obi-Wan makes to scare the sandpeople away after they attack Luke? It used to sound like what I'd imagine a dying hippopotamus to sound like, now it's more like a bird call.

those are the matte lines that got left in for some reason. In that scene it seems they got worse then in the originals I remember. DOn't think the sound obiwan made has changed though
Author

Shouldn't the matte lines just be a black border around the ship? I'm talking a full square around the TIE fighters, most are red, but a couple are green.

yeah they should. This musta happened when they digitally restored the film. although I'm suprised no one noticed it and had it fixed before release its just way to obvious.

Is it true that the PAL dvds have no problems, even the big sound problem that everyones talking about.

No. The PAL discs also have the music issue as well.

Neil

Well at least the reversed surround channels have been addressed.

I had no problems in Chapter 25 or 26 on my ANH DVD. And yes, it appears as if Obi-Wan's Krayt Dragon call has been changed, it sounds higher in tone than before.

Hopefully (And if we no Lucas like we think, that means it's unlikely) the DVDs will be recalled and FIXED!

Geez. I defend the changes until release date and then EVERYTHING else messes up on them.

But then, I havent watched the DVDs through yet, because of school and homework. So I can't say for sure if mine have these problems.

im wondering if people have noticed if the picture height is consistent or if it shrinks and grows as some people have noticed on the laser discs

The damn transfers in all the movies are too dark! I know it's not my TV cause I just had it calibrated. I also used the THX Optimizer for each film. Compared to my Laserdiscs, VCD's and VHS, It is way to dark. Is this just me? Has anyone else noticed this?

ive noticed the darkness too, in some scenes the detail disapears into the darkness, ive especially noticed it in empire but thats thd only one ive really compared yet (to my tr47 discs thanks tr47 i never thanked you) ive also noticed things seem kind of blue, im planning on calibrating my tv when i get the chance, i have the avia disc but ive never used it before

I got the blue filter glasses FREE from the THX web site. That was a couple of years ago. But have a look anyway.

Yes, the picture is WAY too dark in all 3 dvds, and in some scenes, such as jabba's palace, the cantina, on the death star, and basically every indoor or nighttime shot is darkened so much that a lot of things in the backround just don't show up. Scenes in the outdoors where it is sunny (like on tatooine and hoth) look astonishing, however. I also noticed some "haloing" in Return of the Jedi. Bright areas in dark scenes have an orb of light surrounding them, which I find distracting. Also the sound in A New Hope is CRAP. One minute the audio is crystal clear, and the next it is muffled and fuzzy and full of interference. *SIGH*
You like popsicles? Then you need to come on down to the cellar. I got a whole freezer FULL of popsicles. Mmmmm...

This is only in regards to the Tarkin speech scene.

I was watching my TR47 rip of a ANH with my surround sound system and my PC, and realised that the audio also goes from dodgy to better in regards to quality. So in this case at least it seems this audio issue may have been there before or at least since the 93 LDs. Can't speak for the 97 SE editions, but it is my opinion that even then the quality of the better audio clips wasn't ever good enough until now to notice the difference. Maybe not.

In regards to the other audio glitches that's plain and simply Lucasfilm fuck ups, or so to speak.

RATLSNAKE

btw, for those who disagreed with my earlier comments in regards to the Lowry digital cleanup process, they did not have access to the original negatives, but rather negatives made by ILM after they cleaned them up themselves first, and made the color corrections, then transferred back to film and gave it to Lowry. he then made the comment that some scenes in ANH were so bad that their algorithm thought the dust and dirt was actually part of the picture. lol This is taken straight from My Lowry himself in a recent interview I read online the other day. I can't remember which site but it was one of the major American news websites.
