Ahhh, I just discovered something I wasn't aware of -- The enhanced commentary isn't "just" commentary!

I was under the impression it was merely an audio track that lined up with the original movie timing, much like most movie's commentary tracks. However, it's actually an "interactive" movie, so to speak, with the commentators pausing the movie and drawing/diagramming things on the screen. So it wouldn't really be feasible to strip merely the audio track and fuse it into the original bluray rip.

Unless anyone has any ideas, I guess this means we just have to keep the two separate movies? I've wondered if perhaps there's some trickery possible of "fusing" the two tracks of video, so that you can have the option of watching the commentary-edition and have it actively inject the commentary clips of movie-pausing and diagramming. But I imagine something like this wouldn't be possible, or at least feasible.

That's why it's called an "enhanced" commentary and why everyone is upset that it wasn't included. :) And, like I said, you have to re-encode the whole thing in order to burn.

They could have easily put this on the BD - ever hear of the Maximum Movie Mode? And even if they couldn't do that, I doubt that the iTunes download is bigger than 5GB, so it could easily be included on a bonus disc along with a lot of other bonus material in exactly the same quality as the iTunes one.

I don't think anyone is questioning the technical possibilities of this content ;-)

Maximum Movie Mode is awesome - wish they did something like that with Star Wars - like a Jambe Davdar documentary on steroids!!

Does anyone have any of the extras/bonus material from either the Target or Best Buy discs?

All I can say is lookup the words tkhw or teome on a website named after  movement at certain times of the week.

And then look at the other videos that person has uploaded and you will get many that you are looking for.

Use keepvid to get a selection video qualities to download them.

Good luck. If you need help PM me.

I Don't understand why the imax scenes could not just have been included as bonus material on the blu ray.

I believe this question has already been answered in this thread.

Wow! Your special edition looks amazing!

I kept coming to check this thread just hoping to see a message like yours.

I'm 100% absolutely interested. I already got all the Best Buy / Target features from You Tube and Dailymotion, but I haven't find the enhanced audio commentary yet.

I've sent you a private message.

Thanks,

Maab

I don't know if I would want the hassle that may occur with the enhanced commentary, but like Harmy, I would LOVE to get my hands on a folder full of all the other bonus materials. If such a beast exists, please PM me and let me know where to get it. If it's a torrent, I will seed the hell outta that mofo. Thanks!

It’s really sad when the “creative minds” behind something we hold dear are also guilty of its destruction.

I am too perfectly happy with standard def behind the scenes features so that custom set looks very good and comprehensive to me. PM sent!

Now if someone would do the same for mission impossible 4's best buy exclusive extras I would be even happier. These exclusives are ridiculous for movie buffs, especially with retailers that don't even exist outside north america. These efforts are therefore much appreciated if/when paramount keeps pulling this crap on us.

Have been following this tread for a while and "youre my only hope" : )

I live in Scandinavia, and have bought both the Metal 3 disc edition as well as the US Phaser edition.

I have tried to use the code to download the visual commentary , so far no luck. Itunes claims "The download is finished i 540 hours. I have had enough.

I would looove to get a hold of your edition. Is there a link?

Many thanks from a trekkie/obiwannabe.

Check my claymation on youtube: Star Trash Claymation.

Took a year to do : )

Ironically, I've gotten over a dozen PM's requesting a copy of my 2-disc special edition of Into Darkness on DVD, after the only comments on the main board were that recoding all the HD material down to do a SD burn of all the material was probably a waste of time and I should “rethink my strategy” -- but if I wanted to make one just for my own personal use, go right ahead. ;-)

I've now privately shared my project with several people on here. I hope I'm not coming across as too anal because I don't want to torrent my project on a public site. My suggestion for others who got a copy from me would be to simply copy the discs again and share with your friends and family, or upload my project yourself and share with as many people as you want on this site.

Looking back in hindsight, Disc 1 does suffer a bit from having to compress two versions of a two hour movie on a single disc, though its still watchable. Probably the best course of action would have been to do a three disc DVD special edition of Into Darkness, with Disc 1 simply being a copy of the “bare bones” retail DVD release, Disc 2 being the iTunes enhanced commentary vesion of the movie, and Disc 3 being the bonus material like all the trailers and Blu-Ray featurettes. I could also always do a “Version 2.0” release of my special edition, though I'm in no rush at the moment since the quality is fairly satisfactory to watch on a small screen (except for some moments where there's lots of fast paced movement like the chase through Nibiru) Like many of you, I'm still hoping for a definitive Blu-Ray compilation of all the bonus material in HD. My project was created on Nero, so there were some limitations and I wasn't able to do things I'd like such as add subtitles that can be switched on and off.

Thanks to everyone for all the interest and feedback, though. I'm still open to private trades.

First of all, thanks to BillyBoy for his work.

Now that all the retailers' exclusive extras and the iTune commentary is somehow available, I'm troubled that there is still no sign anywhere of the XBox SmartGlass extras.

This link was already posted (by digitalfreaknyc) in this thread:

http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=8202900&postcount=4526

I'm following that thread on Blu-ray.com, but no news over there as well.

Among those extra there are 10 deleted/alternate scenes, and they are:

Deleted Scene: Captain's Log (0:44)
Alternate Scene: Original Ending of Pike's Office (1:51)
Deleted Scene: Thomas Calls Marcus (0:46)
Deleted Scene: Kirk Watches Pike Get Shot (0:48)
Extended Scene: Klingon Conversation (1:18)
Deleted Scene: Kronos Fight Before Khan Arrives (0:42)
Unused Footage from Dailies: Khan Walking Back and Forth in Brig (0:19)
Deleted Scene: Carol's Accent Explained
(0:21)
Deleted Scene: Scotty Talking to Hangar control (0:47)
Deleted VFX Scene: Vengeance Falling to Earth (0:19)

There is also this picture floating around, but nobody was able to confirm if it's from one of the deleted scenes (or if it's from the XBox contents at all).

I've done a test with an XBox and an iPad, but the SmartGlass extras are available only for US territory (and I'm not in the US).

So: does anyone has some news on this? Am I the only one who is eager to see those scenes?

Best,

Maab

sonthegreat mentioned that they were able to get ahold of the Smartglass XBox material.  I have no idea what's going on with that, you should PM them for details. I'm curious about all the deleted/alternate/extended scenes myself, and would like to watch them.

Unfortunately there still seems to be no HD version of the itunes commentary available anywhere. I received the 3D blu-ray for Christmas and like everybody I'm frustrated that we didn't get the commentary or other extras. It's nice that BillyBoy has been sharing his custom DVDs, but really I have the 3D blu-ray because I wanted the highest quality available, and it's not ideal to watch a highly-compressed DVD on a 46" screen. It's very frustrating because I like those types of extras too. They really screwed the fans with this one.

Guys,

I would have to re-author my disc, since I purchased the Target disc. I assume everyone wants ALL of the unique bonus features on one disc?

While I don't really care that much about this film's special features, this is a fantastic idea in general. I *hate* these bloody retail exclusives, and it drives people ego piracy. Its RIDICULOUS.

Would love to see these kind of projects for other films that do this.

Some of us actually prefer quality and have no problem with multiple bonus discs

You mean jsonthegreat? Where did he mention that? On the Blu-ray.com Forum he/she hasn't post anything else after the original announcement post. Another user, jcpelc, wrote that he/she tried to send a private message to jsonthegreat, but he/she hasn't post anything else afterward. I'll probably try to send a message myself but I doubt I'll get any answer.

Best,
