I nearly can't argue against this and your point is steadfast and I don't want any changes to crawls for revisited unless Ady decides to make them but...
First film = Star Wars 1979 then became episode 4
Ok no problem 4, 5 and 6 that is the trilogy of the OT.
To get nitpicky, it was just "Star Wars" until the 1981 theatrical re-release. However Lucas must have been planning it for awhile, because it was titled "Episode IV: A New Hope" in the 1979 first edition of "The Art of Star Wars."
Some may misremember it being called that in the "original screenplay" but it's in a totally different font, obviously created just for the art book itself (preceding a reprint of the shooting script).
Of course I wasn't aware of any fans referring to it as "Episode IV: A New Hope" until perhaps the 90's when we were looking forward to the special editions, and even then it was still billed as "Star Wars" just about everywhere (ads, ticket stubs, novels, etc). It seemed like it was just hardcore nerds that started referring to it by episode number in those days.
Off on a tangent now... Movie titles can change based on popular usage. After all, the third TMNT movie was simply called "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III" then suddenly it got the subtitle "Turtles in Time" (like the fourth video game). Then we suddenly got an animated movie called "TMNT!"
