I'm going to throw in my two cents and say that omitting the shuttle footage is the right decision. The first time the Falcon leaves, our heroes have a clean getaway. Even watching this movie when I was 7 years old, I always thought of Lando's "What about those fighters?" line not to mean that they are currently being chased, but that he knows there must be (or has even seen) TIEs patrolling the city, and if they go back they might get caught.

Vader's "Bring my shuttle" line is meant to say "They think they got away. I'm going to mosey on back to the Executor and catch them since they can't jump to lightspeed." He does not know they are going to double-back, and it works better for him not to see it. He's not in hot pursuit to try to cut them off at the pass. As far as he's concerned, he has plenty of time since they disabled the hyperdrive.

I never felt the need to see his shuttle to know how he got back to the Executor, and the shot interrupts the score and the flow of the scene, which is meant to be focused on our heroes. Darth Vader is bad-ass, we all know it. But I don't think that the flow of the story should be jarred by expositional shots that are nice to see, but ultimately unnecessary. Besides, it's nice to let your own imagination fill in the gaps, something that GL apparently doesn't like us to do.
