Coupled with the 1985 audio mix , this could very well likely be the best presentation of the film
And in the 1985 audio mix...
"effects, new stereo'd effects (Jawa voices after Artoo's capture) and, most noticeably, the addition of C-3PO's line in the Death Star ("The tractor beam is coupled to the main reactor in seven locations. A power loss at one of the terminals will allow the ship to leave"). This new sound mix was used for every subsequent video release until the 1993 THX "Definitive Collection" remastering." Actually, it sounds a little out of place. It was definitely recorded at a different time.

MeBeJedi, do you have the original 1989 version of the ANH LaserDisc or do you have the 1992 re-release of the '89 disc with corrected 2.35:1 letterboxed transfer?
Are you considering adding the 3PO line back in?
I hadn't really thought about it but after reading some earlier posts about the missing 3PO dialogue concerning the Death Star Tractor beam I started doing some research like a crazed Star Wars fan... hey wait, I resemble that remark

...and I began to think that while I do have many numerous "transfers" of ANH on DVD, I don't believe any of them have this line... well, at least not any of the good ones

I wonder why this line was taken out to begin with. I know according to the history of Star Wars that the movie was initially released without this line of dialogue and Ben Burtt added it in later. While Lucas has consistently made major mistakes in "adding" footage, I feel this line is crucial. I remember watching the new, "official" DVDs and wondering where that line was... ObiWan was just out there running around flipping switches... nobody ever told us that "the tractor beam is coupled to the main reactor in seven locations". If ya ask me, this addition makes sense.
I think this discussion sort of died a page back or so... what does everyone think... should this be added back in... and if so, what about the extra muttering from Jawas after they capture R2?
I know a lot of people look at the "definitive" LaserDisc set and worship it like it is infallable and it would be blasphemy to say otherwise but as has been pointed out, the "Faces" set is better in many respects, however, both versions are missing the 3PO DeathStar dialogue we all remember from the VHS.
MBJ, do you feel that adding the 3PO scene will be easy enough to do... is this beginning to feel like one of those "two many cooks in the kitchen" projectt?
