I think stores that have decided to open Thanksgiving Day should be boycotted.   Let the employees enjoy Thanksgiving Day with their families.

What if the employees prefer to work that day?

What if they don't?  I doubt there are many that would prefer to work Thanksgiving Day.   Please remember that this is a holiday you know little about cause you are not from America.

And Thanksgiving isn't necessarily a religious holiday.  Many do use it as such to be Thankful to God and all that, but one doesn't not have to believe in any God(s) to celebrate Thanksgiving.   For some, it is just a day to relax, enjoy being with family, eat turkey and enjoy the football(not fútbol) games.

We used to get triple pay for working the bigger bank holidays and got offered days off away from the holiday season.

It makes sense for you to boycott them because obviously you will be celebrating and won't be going to the shops but a general boycott doesn't make sense to me.

They are providing a service for people who don't find the same days special.

No, what they are doing is trying to make more money by starting the Black Friday sales earlier and earlier and earlier.  They are ruining Thanksgiving Day and Thanksgiving Dinner for countless employees.   It is greed at its worst.    It used to be the stores opened at sane hours on Black Friday. Then they started opening extremely early on Black Friday 6am . . . 5am . . . 4am . . . Until it got to the point where some started opening 12am.  Now some are opening on Thanksgiving  itself.  They are each trying to beat each other.  Pretty soon stores won't close on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.  They will just open be constantly 24 hours a day until News Years day.  It is against everything the holiday season should be about.
