lifestyles of the rich and insane

I think Lucas is losing his mind. This isn't just about the theatrical cuts vs. newfangled things, etc. He's seriously exhibiting behavior that suggests to me that he's losing his mind, billionaire-style.

All right, let me explain myself. Michael Jackson got really famous, really quick. His money supply was practically limitless at times. What happened to him? Well, unfortunatley, he completely lost his mind.

We'll take another pop star example, Britney Spears. She became very famous and very rich very quick. What is beginning to happen? She's starting to lose her mind. If you actually followed the day to day news stories on her (but, honestly, why should you?), you'd see that she's lost touch with all reality. She's in her own little world.

I believe the same has happened to Lucas.

This guy had talent. He created some of the most well-known and loved films in history. But, I think we should have started to worry around the time the Star Wars Christmas album came out. Though, honesly, what do you get a Wookie for Christmas if he already owns a comb? Oh, love and understanding, true.

Howard the Duck...we can excuse that.

Then those Special Editions came out. I was a little bewildered. Sorry, ILM, but you're *still* no good at CGI, even today. That was terrible.

Now, the 2004 editions. And now, possibly most insulting to me, at least, the redux of THX-1138, which took an absolutely brilliant, terrifying, claustrophobic film and added explosions, car chases and sweeping futuristic vistas, completely ruining the idea of confinement and uncertainty.

So, no original versions of those films ever. He said it himself in the interview with CNN, "they're out there on VHS, [the fans] can get them there." Jerk!

Then his statement on colorizing films...

Honest, guys, he's losing it. He thinks that all this CGI looks good (it doesn't), the new films are good (they aren't) and Hayden Christensen can act (he can't).

I don't think it's senelity, I don't think it's stupidity, I just think all the power and money has gone directly to his head and he's living in a CGI dreamland.

Lucas, I love you, please come back to us. Make these artsy movies you've been threatening us with for so long. Give me just one reason to believe you're not insane.

Sorry for ranting, I don't mean to upset anyone. If you read all of that, thanks. Off to my bootlegs...

As many others have said, if Lucas wasn't a billionaire, he'd probably be committed by now.

And it's not just the OT thing, it's how he talks, the ideas he expresses, and his general point of view circa 2004. The guy clearly has some mental issues (Alzheimers? Senility? Stroke?) and other than the drooling, Lucas-loving fanboys (who still see him as he was in 1977), it's pretty obvious.

In all fairness, you cannot compare what has happened to Michael Jackson and what will eventually happen to Britney Spears to GL.

Lucas' madness is derived from what appears to me to be megalomania. He has tremendous power over what we see in Star Wars, and he's pushing our tolerance for his changes.

Now, in the case of Michael Jackson (and this could happen to Britney as well), the problem is not power.
He had no childhood. He was singing and dancing with the Jackson 5 when he was, what, under 10.
From what I've heard, his father, in particular, worked the entire family very hard to make them famous. Michael never got to "grow up". As a result, he's living out his childhood now, and its getting him in trouble.

As for Britney...I don't know much about her. She was on Disney (Mouseketeer, right?), then she started singing. She's had more of a childhood than Jackson has had, but I'd have to say not much more.

Sam Lu,
Nice signature.

I agree with you Starkiller, it's not really a specific comparison. I've just never seen a filmmaker do something quite like this before, so it's more about money than all of the other variables. While Britney may not exactly have control over her music, etc., wealth brings a lot of power. It seems like these examples, and others, become more selfish with more money and lose touch with the (quote-unquote) "real world."

But, yes, all other comparisons between George and the others don't really exist.

Although Britney as The Supreme Leader in Captain EO would have been...interesting...

LOL!!!

Well, I belive GL is losing his mind too. Perhaps he has become a pedophile too... I mean, he wants to attract children by creating Star Wars movies aimed for boys aged 7-13... Has anyone seen any kids hanging around with him on Skywalker Ranch?

Lucas, I love you, please come back to us.

............. ok.

I'll just step back and walk on the opposite direction for a while, ok?

The thing I can't stand about Lucas is how dull and boring he is. He's devoted a lot of time to these films and every interview he's just a complete bore...he says the same mindless crap, laughs like he's actually funny and generally acts like an ass. And then there's the hideous audio commentary he does...

"This, uhhhh....scene...uhh..sort of....I was going for sort of a more, uhhhh...different sort of approach, uhhhh..."

And then he'll pronounce the character names wrong.

Haha. Glad to know that I'm not alone on this.

He really is a tool, and when the commentary gets to a controversial change, he just sort of glazes over it, if he mentions anything at all. For example, in the 2004 Jedi, when the end scene with the force ghosts comes up, he doesnt say a word regarding it. He wont even defend himself...

"Im right, and thats all there is to it. Im right because im right, so nah"

"You don't own space, so stop actin' like you do."

if you look at Empire of Dreams and the other supplemental features on disc 4, I never realised what an unhappy miserable bastard Lucas was during the filming of the original trilogy, the way he discusses all the production issues and studio issues, it's a wonder he didn't put a gun to his head, It didn't seem like anyone on set liked him, his only method of directing seems to be ' Can you do it again faster and more intense!' and the cast don't seem to have a lot of love for him either, sure they're happy for the parts they had in the saga, but I doubt you'd find anyone who would jump at the chance to work for Lucas again.

LOL hehehehahahahaha "gun to his head", that made me spit the soda I was drinking!

It's true, he had a very rough time, but it would be quite tragic if he blew his brains out on the set of Star Wars... Geez, maybe we should treat him better. I don't feel so good about it now... Sorry George, keep doing special editions...
