James Bond 007 Thread — Page 9

Well it should be the new SPECTRE in the movies QUANTUM that Blofeld is in charge of and as I was saying earlier about Benedict Cumberbatch playing a Bond villain Blofeld should be one of the possibilities for his career.

He will probably get around to it after he has played Dr Kananga and Octopussy.

If they revive Blofeld, he probably needs to be tweaked a little bit. The Austin Powers trilogy pretty much took the menace out of an evil bald guy in a Nehru jacket stroking his pussy. Give him a lizard like Sanchez perhaps?

In keeping with tradition, he face shouldn't be seen right away. Max Von Sydow could do the voice, if the Bond people don't hold a grudge about him being in Never Say Never Again. ;)

Where were you in '77?

Nothing wrong with Nehru Jackets (or pussy stroking if that's your thing).

I would have liked Connery to have played Blofeld back in 50th Anniversary year.

Well it should be Benedict Cumberbatch as Blofeld with a business suit and instead we take out the cat but keep the style of you can't see his face and when a henchman must die for failing it isn't the one we expect to be killed and is the opposite of what we think sort of like in FRWL and Thunderball.

Am i incorrect in thinking Kevin McClory owned titles like Spectre, the blofeld name as well as all the material related to thunderball's story?

Now that he is dead could they conceivably use them or would they have to pay his estate?

Doubt they ever revisit Blofeld though not after Austin Powers.   Its too silly to even think about.

Telly Savalas was great  in OHMSS but Donald Pleasance was horrible in YOLT.

The whole quantum thing was dropped and unresolved because people thought Quantum of Solace was a turkey.

Donald Pleasance was horrible?????    I've always consider his the best of the three Blofeld performances.   Granted it falls short of the expectations set by FRWL and Thunderball, but all three of them do.   Telly Savalas was good, but he was an American.  A Blowfeld with an American accent just doesn't feel right. DAF was just terrible, imho.

Charles Grey was as English as an Englishman can be. Donald Pleasance sounded like an American operating a European cadence without a license.

Telly (I love Telly) sounds unmistakably American but his Greek heritage and his bald head makes him look strangely not of this Earth.

That's why he works so well in Lisa and the Devil (1973).

Yul would have been good.

Well with Benedict Cumberbatch it could be just a really menacing presence of the character and he won't need a bald head or a cat just his voice alone.

I never said Blofeld had to be English.   A fake European cadence would be more obvious to someone from Europe than to someone from America.

I don't find his menacing voice menacing anymore...I think it's been over used.

He should have play an alien next.

I never said you said anything. In the books his origin story is as international as Hannibal Lector's and probably is false. Though I must confess I would find it more difficult to detect Stellan Skarsgård doing a German accent than Donald Sutherland doing one (and he is Canadian).

To me Cumberbatch's Khan was more comic book than a throwback to literary figures as Khan was in star trek II.  the New Khan is decidedly not Ahab, or Lucifer from paradise lost.

You don't see him being this really intelligent guy where are all his books and he does not quote from classical literature.

He is more like an evil Superman who cannot fly.

I am not the least bit interested in seeing him in Bond or in star wars.  Especially as a albino sith in star wars VII, VIII, or IX.

Here is something new. I was watching the doctor who episode Day Of The Doctor and it featured the previous doctor in the series. Now it would be cool to see the return of Pierce Brosnan as either Felix leighter or as another double oh agent.

Tom Hardy kinda reminds me of Telly Savalas, back to a Blofeld that can kick ass:

ShinZon as Blofeld.  Wow.

Hey i know he was Bane too but under a mask.

I remember people saying they wanted him to play Lex Luthor or Zod in man of steel, some fans i mean not Zach Snyder.

He's actually quite good in the Nolan films I've seen him in, more than just Batman.  To be honest I think he'd be a strange choice but I'd be down with it if he played it straight like Telly Savalas, as Jaitea suggested.

Fleming's creation still is best, the three film versions are almost all parts of that character's psyche but never quite match up despite my fondness for each.

And the fact that I quote Diamonds are Forever practically on a daily basis. ;)

Years and years ago, I said Arnold Vosloo would've been an amazing Lex Luthor, but the subject of Blofeld coming up, why couldn't a South African play Blofeld?

He's in his early 50's, he's got sort of that Telly Savalas/Yul Brynner thing going on. He's got an interesting voice, that just fits the intellectual bad guy. He's also had the ability to get in shape for a role, so he could be a fighting Blofeld like Telly.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

While they work on the next film where do you think the franchise is headed and where do you think it should go?

I am not too sure myself the last film was not epically great but made more Money simply because at its core it wasn't really Bond.

The director and screenwriters wanted to tell a different story using the framework of the 007 film series but it could have been any other filmed post 911 thriller.

That is not that i want comic book or over the top Bond.  Though i do enjoy Bond when it is fun but not a self parody like Die Another Day.

I do enjoy Bond as flawed, human and basically a thug.  But i do feel like there have been some major missteps after the mostly excellent Casino Royale.

And with Craig stuck for 2 more films i am dreading that either the franchise dies or more likely gets rebooted for the third time since Goldeneye.

With a  New actor and who knows where they can take the character that feels fresh and modern and involves some risk.

No more Bond reboots BOOOOOO!!!! You don't need a bloody origin story for 007, there are amoeba on Mars that could still tell you who Bond is and what he's about.
