As a fan, I can appreciate the feeling of entitlement to something new that was not released in a prior version, because "I already bought it".* However, I can also understand the perspective as an IP rights owner releasing a new version of a product being frustrated when folks pirate it. The dead tree version and the digital book are two completely different products; there was an additional cost that went into the latter, with new formatting and added content.
E.g., Just because I had Mario Kart on an SNES cartridge doesn't mean I should expect to get the new version on the Wii disc, gratis. Even though they are, after all, pretty much the same game. ;-P
In any event, this iBook series gives me a reason to finally spend some of those discounted iTunes cards I had bought during sales.
*Kindle versus iTunes version is especially frustrating, but it's always good to research before purchase. ;-)
