As I have a day off, I'll take a plane to watch it... (^^,)

Well, if someone will be there, please post your thought, and tell me if the snow is blue, or the husky dog is brown...

I just finally got the chance to watch this.  I must say, it looks a lot nicer with white snow, LOL.

You did a fine job with this Andrea.  Totally worth the time and bandwidth to have in my collection.

Cheers!!!

So I downloaded this and while I am amazed at the video and audio results, the Blu-Ray is a problem for me. I cannot chapter forward, nor ff or rw. It just locks up and crashes the player. Before I burned my final disc I burned it on a BD-RE just to test and when I ran into trouble with this issue i decided to take the mt2s stream and using tsMUXer GUI I created my own Blu Ray, deleting the foreign language audio tracks.

No difference with this once burned. I can stick it in the player but I cannot use chapter forward or back, ff or rewind, etc. I have to watch the film straight through.

Audio track switching isn't a problem and I found myself preferring the PCM.

Brought this with me for my California vacation, great job with this. Very professional and was my first time watching The Thing. I'm glad I got to experience it as originally intended.

Hello! I'm new here. I'm a huge fan of this movie. I have it on VHS, DVD, Blu-ray and a remux of the HDDVD which, IMHO, looks somewhat better than the DNR Blu-ray.

I want to know if someone can point me directions to this new version.

Thank you so much in advance! :)

Using BDRebuilder I am able to get a viable version to burn and playback. No menus. Just the movie itself, but it works. Like with ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, I would urge [spoRv] to take some additional time to work out final BD mastering issues because this is good work hampered by some BD playback issues.

For BD playback issues, I opened a dedicated thread, to gather all comments and try to find out a solution; please post your BD feedback there, thanks!

Once again that's pretty bad, i wish they would go back and do a new scan and of course not to mess with it.

Just another reason to NOT watch the BD...

Yep that's why your version is the only version.   :)

Anyone have a bit-perfect rip of 'The Thing' 'Signature Collection' LD commentary? Anyone know which DVD releases (in which regions) are edited?

Is the commentary included in this BD-25 the edited version?

"... The Thing (1982) audio commentary on bluray was edited for some legal reasons I guess regarding Keith David about stealing a car in New York city was removed from the bluray and no doubt later versions of DVD maybe? I know the commentary track was recorded for the “Signature Collection” which I don’t have, I only have the R2 DVD first edition. ..." from laserbite34 @ http://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?p=605#p605

and

"... The commentary moment is around the time ware Blair goes nuts and starts beating up the radio room and Kurt is standing next door in the corridor just before Keith David enters the scene with rubber black hand glove. ..." from laserbite34 @ http://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?p=645#p645

I tested the BD-RE onto several BD players, and it worked flawlessy. According to one of my colleagues, that has seen "The Thing", or, better, "La Cosa" many times on TV; "colors are like how I remember them from TV broadcasts of '80s and '90s, and are not so dull as you told me... I like it!"

If someone who could author BD with menus would like to help me, I think "The Thing [spoRv 2.0]" could be done with a little color more, along with animated menus, a remastered HD trailer, and some interesting extras in an additional BD-25.

About to download this but are you still planning a 2.0 release?

The truth is: I'd like to fix it, because it could be compressed better, but I have so many projects to finish/start/redo, that this is one of the last I'll take in consideration, just because it's very very good, and a LOT better - color wise - than any BD. So, I think you should go for it now! (^^,)

Now that a Scream Factory new release is available - that has a better image, more grain, bigger frame, but still “wrong” color grading - maybe it’s time to use it as source for a new version…

Is there anywhere I can see details about the Shout! Factory version vs. the correct colors?

Which are the correct colors? Who knows! I prefer the laserdisc grading; to me, the colors are “right”, but it doesn’t mean they are the correct colors (read: as seen in theaters at the release date).

Well, you could always take a look at this website: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film5/blu-ray_reviews_73/the_thing_blu-ray.htm

The first non-anamorphic DVD had the uncensored commentary. The subsequent releases were edited.

From this post the producer of The Thing, Stuart Cohen, wrote:

My own anecdotal belief, based on days spent in timing sessions and checking print runs, is that the Scream transfer is much more faithful to our original intent. The idea was to drain as much color from the film as possible - not only to give it that grey-blue COLD look - but in order to provide a platform for Robs stuff to explode on screen in all its Technicolor glory…

I also saw a screening of the film last year after getting the spoRV release and thought the film’s colors were more blue. On my calibrated TV, the spoRV is actually a bit too red in some spots in the snow. I am waiting for the new BD to arrive, so I can’t comment on how it compares to the film screening that I attended.

My opinion is that using the new BD with the old DVD uncensored commentary and standalone soundtrack is the way to go. However, this isn’t my project.
