Here's a first attempt I made a couple of days ago for brainstorming purposes of what has been developed in the Revisited saga thread.

I'll quote a post I made after the idea that is tried to be developed currently by Aalenfae (if I don't get it wrong) as general insight for Anakin's character

I think Anakin should go down Harvey Dent's route. However, i'll make the point after some differences between Star Wars and Rings.

At some point, Anakin's story is the exact opposite to Frodo's story. Lucas set up an order where anakin fell because he was too human. GL wanted the jedi order to be morally more than humans, he didn't want them to commit to anybody, nor to help or show compassion, not even to marry.

While the Jedi keep this rigid behaviour, everything develops just fine and the galaxy is in order. But then comes Anakin, who acts like a normal person, chooses his wife over his duty, and so he falls (and the republic falls) because of their forbidden love. Cleary it is wrong for him to be and act just as a common folk would.

Now take LOTR. The ultimate success in Frodo's mission comes from love under the form of pity, because he spared Gollum's life, because Faramir let Frodo go when he wasn't supposed to, etc. In a general way, we are trained (culturally trained) to identify ourselves with characters that show some human scale while heroes are determined, heroes have goals of grandeur and stay on their path. Characters we all emphatise with are the ones that are set in a path that wasn't theirs, and solve things the best they can (Han solo, anyone?)

I'd make a hero of Anakin if I were to make these movies, because that's what's wrong with him. I wouldn't want anyone to like him but to admire him. Anakin should be incorruptible, the perfect soldier, always proceeding by the book. This blind commitment to civil duty, this inflexibility is what puts him just two steps away from being a monster. He should fall because he denies his human emotions, not because he follows them.

In the end, he falls because the institutions of the republic are rotten. this is the key: The jedi are monsters which is why Luke's Jedi Order wouldn't be just a copy of the preceeding one. You can't prevent humans from being humans, this should be the real tragedy of Anakin Skywalker. He was raised to be something noone can be. And he took it all too seriously.

Again: it's the Harvey Dent route, from hero to vilain in two minutes, when he realises he's let so much go and it wasn't worthy. That's the first step to messianism.

And at this point I believe it's the only feasible way to make Anakin's repentine turn work.

In AOTC he looses his mother because of duty. He gets too late to Tattoine. In ROTS, by setting the scene when he's alone in the council chamber crying BEFORE he denounces Palpatine to Windu, it will be shown that he is RENOUNCING to Padmé for the sake of the republic, and he cries because it's his mother chapter all over again (he is clearly proceeding like a monster at that point, no one would give up the love of his live for political stability). So when for some reason he gets to the chancellor's office and windu is clearly not proceeding by right or law, the messianic I me mine Vader is gets to the surface (the jedi are as corrupt as the Sith, and I'm the only one who can save this Republic)

Wow, that is really effective as an ending, I love it!

I really love the effect this idea has on Anakin's character. Making him the by-the-book, "perfect soldier" is perfect for setting himself up to become Vader. Anakin renouncing his love and his emotions in favor of his own self-righteousness is much more effective and MUCH more tragic than the original movies would have it.

Keep the ideas coming, Mithrandir.
Hopefully at some point, a spark of inspiration will hit me as to how I can harmonize this new Anakin throughout the PT.

Alllllllrighty guys!
Here's some progress I've made on TPM!
Finally something that's not very actiony.

Here's the heroes arriving at Coruscant in TPM.
This is essentially my first run-through with editing, so expect more changes and streamlining along the way.

Ah, yeah.
I forgot to post one last preview video before I go to Japan for four months! xD
Oops! But it's true. I won't be posting any new material or edit updates for the next four months. Sorry to break the news to everybody!

Here's some random ideas I had for RotS.
Pay special attention to the beginning of the video, where I've edited the scene in such a way that we don't need the awful "ray shields!" scene. And Keep in mind that if I went this route, the battle droids and Grievous would be redubbed.

Aalenfae, that's a great rough cut!  I've always wanted to edit the elevator scene so that as the ship levels out, the three of them simply fall into an open doorway, because I'm not a fan of the miracle grappling hooks.  That always left the problem of how to show Obi-Wan waking up, and left the cringe worthy ray shield scene.  This ingeniously circumvents both of those events!

I noticed you put in some non existent dialogue subs for Grievous towards the end, so I'm assuming you're planning on redubbing Grievous' voice?  If so, I would go even further to say, if possible, rework the entire conversation between him and the heroes to make his banter with them fit better with their responses.

Either way, great work!

Glad you like it!
I always hated the miracle grappling hooks, too. And the random elevator problem. It's such a worthless little bit of cheap action. It only creates one problem. I need to show R2 getting captured in a new way.

And yeah, I'm pretty committed to redubbing Grievous. And we're thinking on the same wavelength here, haha. When I redub Grievous, his lines will definitely fit into the responses better and such. Redubbed Grievous and battle droids will give me a whole lot of freedom in the mood and weight of the scene.

Could you imply he's captured by the Super Battle Droids in the hangar?

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Yeah, that'd probably be the way to do it. There's even that shot of a super battle droid picking up R2. So if it's intercut with Obi-Wan and Anakin going up the elevator - before the Dooku duel - it might work quite well.

Not a bad idea.  A less problematic approach might be to add a short bit of dialogue to the battledroid when he tells Grievous where the Jedi are.  "The Jedi are in hallway 3218, and an unknown droid in hanger bay 5."  Something to that effect.

But in all honesty, the first time I watched your clip, I didn't give R2's capture a second thought.  It was still a smooth transition without explicitly showing or saying how he was captured.  Just my 2 cents though.

Good idea! It could go like this, since I'm dubbing Grievous and the droids:

"general, we've located the indruders. A droid and two Jedi."

"bring them to the bridge!"

I like it a lot. Two things:

1. I'm assuming you plan re-scoring. If not you should.

2. The shot of R2 lifted from ANH is kind of obvious. Maybe change the background or something.

Author

1. Rescoring in process! I'm just trying to settle on what music to rescore it with. Likely ANH music.
2. The ANH shot of R2 will be color-corrected with a new background to match the location .

That elevator scene is pure freaking genius! I hope you are ready for it to be borrowed for future edits (credit to you, of course =). That rayshield scene is such a lazy writing, heroes need to be captured so there's a random shield system installed into ceiling to capture them. Yeah sure...

I did some inspired editing and I think R2 being captured is pretty easy to solve: https://vimeo.com/77981391

Did you take that one shot of the debris being sucked into space from the cartoon? I never remember seeing that before.

I’m just here because I’m driving tonight.

I feel like a complete dweeb updating a months-old thread, but ... I'm back!

Well, I'd like to say "I'm back!" and I was going to upload some new, awesome stuff I've been working on in my absence, but it turns out that lighting struck my computer (almost literally), and a great deal of my prequel edit work was lost. HOWEVER, that does not mean that I will stop the edits. It just means that they will take a lot longer than expected. I intended to do a surprise release around the summer, but they'll likely take several months longer than that (and will perhaps be a little less extreme, but we shall see!)

In the meantime, I'd like to officially say that I'm back from my long time away, and in the coming months, you can expect some more cool stuff coming your way!

YAY!!

Top Tip : don't use your computer on the top of a very tall metal structure in a thunder storm during the week a pope resigns :-D

I wonder, are you planning on shifting the 'ruminations of Padme' scene to before Anakin informs Mace about Palpatine being a Sith? If so, have you done any work on that portion yet? That sounds like a very interesting change to make.

My stance on revising fan edits.
