If some of that dialogue can be processed/re-recorded it would would go some way to redeeming Obi Fib Kenobi in a fan-edit.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. The Obi Wan line and the stuff about "great weakness you carry" would be something I'd like to put into my edit. Maybe even end the scene with the weakness line and then a few seconds of Yoda looking sad. Rather than showing him die, which always seemed contrived to me, just end the scene there.

Getting this whole LD on lossless format would be amazing. I'd love to play around with this scene.

I could offer my help; with 15 laserdisc players (including two MUSE) I think this disk SHOULD play well in one or another... (^^,)

Sadly my projects are lost due to an HDD crash… 😦 | [Fundamental Collection] thread | blog.spoRv.com | fan preservation forum: fanres.com

It worries me that this is getting so much publicity.  What if Disney/LFL shut this down?

What if Disney/LFL thanks the fans for their discovery as it has reminded them of this footage, and made them go back to the archives where they have discovered the original master for the disc which they will now be streaming for free on the official site. As way of thanks they will be giving a handsome cash reward to those who discovered and paid for the disc, as well as free Disney passes for the entire of next summer! yay! or not :(

Either way, it is in everybody's best interests to get lossless captures up asap.

Actually, as far as I can make out Disney were really chill about that film "Escape from Tomorrow". Maybe they will ignore Star Wars fan stuff as long as it doesn't step on anything they are doing.

That's my thought.  Capture the whole thing,, spread it around as widely and discreetly as possible, and then there's no way to shut it down.  Releasing it piecemeal on as high profile a site as FB invites legal troubles.  If they can get deleted scenes removed from YouTube, why wouldn't they be able to do the same with this project?  I could be wrong and don't necessarily understand the legal loopholes like the Freedom of Information Act, but it just seems to be inviting trouble, and this is such a precious and rare resource, I'd hate for the control freaks to put an end to this amazing find.

In the case of that particular movie, they may simply not want to draw any attention to it, and give it free publicity by making a lot of legal noise.

We really don't know what Disney might do to our little band of rebels yet.

I agree.

Whether the sharing of these clips is technically legal or not hardly matters. Corporations file false copyright claims on the layman quite frequently, and with success.

Disney has functionally infinite money for lawyers in court. None of us do.

The Facebook page comes across as existing for educational purposes ("Hey, the footage exists, here are some samples with trivia-type information").

But, like I said, it just does not matter.

This EditDroid laserdisc is really fascinating when you begin to think of how it got out there.

Was parts of jedi edited in London during filming at elstree? I think this disc was most likely stolen as far back as during production in 1982.  The contents of the disc are of the most secret and pivotal scene that everyone wanted to know about with Yoda confirming Vader as Luke's father.  Once a workprint was genrerated from the disc's contents it may have been immediately swiped by someone for private home viewing to show off to their friends the big Jedi reveal. The reason I think this was taken from Elstree is once these discs were at skywalker ranch it would have been impossible to walk out with one due to the security there.  This is all guessing of course.  The ebay seller is actually in Los Angeles but this is someone who is selling off huge amounts of laserdiscs.  They must have acquired a huge lot of discs from someone and this just happened to be in the collection.

I think in my opinion this is one of the nicest of Star Wars collectibles to own. Something used in the actual construction of the film.  $700 is a total steal and Im glad its gone to the right people for preservation.

To my knowledge Jedi was never edited on the Editdroid. This laserdisc and probably others were made to demo the editdroid at conventions and demonstrations.

This disc could have been stolen from a convention or possibly even ended up with Avid after the systems were sold in 1993.

Exactly, it's a demo disc for the trade shows where Editdroid was shown off. The youtube video I linked to earlier in the thread was from 1984. The plot cat was well out of the bag by then.

Note the date on the disc label, 1983.

Even if they were rough cutting the film at Elstree, you have to take into account incompatible video systems, PAL vs. NTSC. Even if they brought a bunch of NTSC gear over there, would it work properly even with current converters of the day? I couldn't even get a hair dryer to work outside the U.S. once. ;)

This is correct. I just read a book on the history of editing technology called Timeline and in it was of course the history of the Editdroid. The Jedi footage was only used as a demo. The movie was entirely edited on a flatbed editor.

The funny thing is, reading about the Editdroid, Lucas talked up technology so feverously and poured so much money into the development of this incredible machine... Only to barely use it himself and sell it off to Avid in 1994.

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

Just like he let Pixar go? Bet he regrets that once in a while!

THX was sold off as part of LucasFilm, right? If so, it seems Disney is being uncharacteristically cool about this.

Yeah, that's pretty weird. What reason could they have? Free publicity for that new SW movie? lol

No, THX is owned by Creative Labs, not affiliated with Disney or Lucasfilm.

That's good to know.

Anyway, I'm thinking Disney would've reacted by know if they intended to react in the first place.
