Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1 — Page 26

Hey, so my internet is gone and the cable company is slow to getting it back on (but I am somehow much more productive...). So I realized that I do not have the FLAC of the fixed audio. But I can say that it was definitely Catbus who made it, so perhaps sending him a PM might do the job!

Does this  sync problem affect all the audio tracks on Harmy's despecialized ROTJ ?.

Any of them that are synced to the NTSC framecount would be affected.  I think that means all of the English language tracks.  The dubs are probably fine since most come from PAL discs or are synced to the PAL framecount (and sync differences on this scale don't mean much for dubs anyway).

I don't actually have the original tracks anymore, so I can't verify this.

I have a problem. I took out my dual layer dvd's and popped them in and suddenly powerdvd doesn't recognize any of the discs. Neither does VLC. The discs aren't "bad" as they're readable. What happened? New stealth copy protection scheme?

Well you're supposed to own the GOUT to download this, the problem being if you're a French speaker from Europe like me, you can't just extract the audio from the EU GOUT because it would be PAL, and Harmy's DeEd are SECAM. If you're from Quèbecois, then you can just grab it from your ROTJ GOUT disc.

Please bear with me if I tend to get too excited about anything or say too much, I have issues.

SECAM? What is this, the VHS era?

ROTJ Despecialized is based on the frame count of the PAL disc but run at NTSC film speed (from 25 to 23.9 fps). You'll need to take your EU disc, rip it and change the speed appropriately.

The québécois version is NTSC and does not completely match up with the PAL version frame for frame.

Although, seeing as it's a dub, the slight differences might not be that noticeable.

Well, there is really no chance of that happening then. I already have the VHS (english only) and the SE dvd's. I am not giving anymore money to Lucas/Disney Until the time they release the original version in acceptable quality that is.  Oh well...

Which SE DVDs do you have? The ones from 2004 (with a single bonus DVD for the trilogy) or 2006 (with a bonus DVD for each movie)?

I understand what it is that you feel towards giving money to Lucas. Personally, I couldn't process how the hell is Hayden Christensen appearing in a 20+ years old movie the first time I watched Jedi. But it's a fan edit/preservation rule to own the sources used for making them, even if it doesn't make it 100% legal. And for v2.0 onwards, you'll even need to get the Blu-rays or whatever format it will be made from.

The new ebook version of Making of Return of the Jedi contains about 1:45 minutes of footage of the ending of ROTJ with an alternate ending music track, taken from an earlier cut of the film. The music is a bit of novelty, but more interesting is that the footage is in 720p and has the original Shaw appearance in a better resolution than can be found in the GOUT (as far as I can tell).

Might be of interest for Harmy if he decides to revisit ROTJ..

Oh, absolutely! I might be getting footage from Team N1, but it's not a done deal yet, so I'd be very interested in seeing this. Maybe other shots could be useful as well.

speaking of ebooks can one download it to there computer?  I don't have any other device like phones or pads.

looking for HDTV of the  Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.  Also HDTV of The Lord of the Rings trilogy

Yes, you can read it on the Kindle PC or Mac client. The forthcoming Mac version of iBooks will also read it.

It would presumably not be very hard to crack open the copy protection and extract the video files, but I haven't messed with that stuff for ebooks too much.

Harmy, I LOVE YOU!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU!

Your work on Return of the Jedi is very important to me personally because the two Special Edition changes that ruined things for me the most were Vader saying "no" when Luke is getting electrocuted and the changed ending (Ewok celebration song and Sebastian Shaw's ghost). I'm very emotional about those parts and I literally get goosebumps when I see them in your restored version!

That being said, I really hope that you continue to work on a future version of Return of the Jedi. I've noticed two parts that bother me a little bit.

I feel like I can kind of tell that Sebastian Shaw's eyebrows have been inserted into the shot from lower-def elements. They kind of look noticeably less sharp than everything around them, and maybe it's just me but they almost seem to wiggle a little bit instead of being a natural solid part of the face.

Also, when Jabba says "Move him into position!" and Luke is first pushed out onto the plank and we see an overhead shot of the Sarlaac pit, the Sarlaac also looks a little bit like it was inserted into the desert shot and seems a little blurry.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to make a big deal about these observations, and did I mention I LOVE YOUR WORK? But yea I just hope I can look forward to even greater stuff. Thanks again for actually putting the effort in so that the rest of us can just sit on our asses and enjoy!

And here Harmy was worried that being dubbed "nerd royalty" would keep him from ever getting laid again...

(Actually, it is even funnier now that I've bothered to read the commenter's name!)

First, I want to thank everyone who has contributed to the creation and distribution of this wonderful project.

My question concerns Harmy's Return of the Jedi Despecialized Edition and where to download it.

After downloading the 41 .rar files from tehparadox.com, only to have WinZip unable to unzip the .m2ts file, and after downloading the .mkv ROTJ file from a torrent, only to have both tsMuxerGI and VLC converter crash while trying to convert to another format, I am at a loss.

Naturally, I would request help at tehparadox.com, consulting the original poster of the links.  Unfortunately, although my account is registered, it is unable to be activated for unknown reasons, so, I can not post on that forum.

Winzip produced the following error message (despite unzipping all other files included using the provided password, Winzip failed to unzip the .m2ts file):

Extracting to "F:\Star Wars VI Despecialized\"

Use Path: yes   Overlay Files: no

Extracting FINAL AVCHD\BDMV\STREAM\00000.m2ts

Error: CRC mismatch in file "F:\Star Wars VI Despecialized\FINAL AVCHD\BDMV\STREAM\00000.m2ts" in the archive "F:\Star Wars VI Despecialized\VIDeEdv1.0.part01.rar" - possible wrong/missing password

Irrecoverable Error:  CRC error detected.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your time.

Have you checked the file sizes of all the .RAR files? I seem to recall having issues where a few of them didn't download completely (probably due to a network hiccup) and I had to re-download them.

Hmmm, that's odd.
I still have 41 rar parts from 2011; however, they have different name "ROTJ AVCHD.part41.rar" and contain ISO image (2011-08-14).
So maybe I cannot help :(

Klasodeth has a good idea-- are any parts smaller than the rest?
If using Windows Explorer you'll probably see size in kilobytes or megabytes, not bytes.
You could click the column heading to sort by size.

'spleen torrent is m2ts, not mkv, and its hashes match my ISO

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…
