Star Trek Into Darkness Bonus disc (Released) — Page 4

Wow. This clusterfuck of a release is really proving to be a... well... clusterfuck. I really hope the materials can be compiled for the sake of all our sanity! Paramount and Bad Robot definitely make the Shit List.

I really appreciate the effort shown here to get this thing done.

It’s really sad when the “creative minds” behind something we hold dear are also guilty of its destruction.

Any news about this project? I just bought the czech edition and was shocked that it has almost no special features

Do you have the deleted scenes?

I don't think anyone has them - not any release I have seen.

I have the enhanced commentary from iTunes, and the Target Bonus Disc, and I'm still trying to get hold of the Best Buy Canada Bonus Disc.

Doesn't look like this guy has posted any updates since.  No sign of them on YouTube etc either...

For the disc, does everyone need the Target stuff AND the Best Buy? Or just the BB and the enhanced commentary?

Bit late to this but Target and BB and enhanced commentary please.

Going to buy the UK blu when it drops in price (no risk of losing first-run slipcover etc as there isn't one), which is the same as every other region's lacking standard release. And I'm not buying a Sainsbury's exclusive dvd.

Any chance you could make available the untouched enhanced commentary as a separate file in addition to the re-encoded one you're putting together for the disc?

I'm really surprised that I haven't seen ANY of the bonus content or special features being torrented anywhere on the internet yet. The film has been out on video for quite a while and the best you can get via download is the basic blu-ray release. I hope you guys succeed on this forum succeed in making a custom version with the Target/Best Buy/iTunes stuff, because it doesn't seem to be floating around anywhere else.

I'm guessing a fair amount of us bought discs for the extras instead of waiting to download them so that might be why you haven't seen anything yet.  As for the iTunes stuff ....... it just may not be worth the effort.  It's anyone's guess.  I personally can't stand iTunes and won't purchase anything from them so that's my deal ..... LOL.

I've been likewise surprised. It seems this project may be dead in the water :/

Update: I managed to track down a lot of the Target & Best-Buy exclusive featurettes on YouTube.  A couple of them have Spanish or Japanese subtitles and are not the best quality, but usually the subtitles can be removed and they're certainly good enough to burn to DVD.  The only thing I will need from other fan editors is a recoded version of the itunes commentary. I refuse to purchase it as a separate 5GB download on my computer, and I don't have an itunes player anyway.  If someone can turn it into a basic video file like an MP4 or MKV file, that would be ideal.

Here's the latest news from me:  Someone was nice enough to PM me with a link to a recoded DRM-free version of the itunes enhanced commentary, so I created my own custom DVD of Star Trek Into Darkness where you can play the movie with or without commentary. I have it saved as a 4.35GB ISO file.

I would be happy to trade with others, but keep in mind it's a standard definition DVD with over 4 hours of movie on it (both versions of Into Darkness), so don't expect anything stunning graphic-wise.

I have managed to track down all the extras from the Target, Best Buy, and standard blu-ray releases except for three featurettes: "Attack on Starfleet" (5:25),  "Brawl By the Bay" (5:44), and "Continuing the Mission" (1:29)

If someone has ripped these three featurettes and can provide me with copies of them, I can create a second custom DVD disc that contains all the commercially available bonus material, plus some other stuff like the trailers and the deleted shower scene.  I would also be happy to re-torrent that, or trade with others.

I'm happy just having my own custom 2-disc DVD for now,  as I don't have a blu-ray burner anyway. But I look forward to the day someone is able to create a definitive blu-ray version of this movie that has  EVERYTHING on it.

I'm confused.  This started out as a thread for a project that could be shared freely if completed but you are willing to trade?

That kind of defeats the purpose of sharing freely don't you think?  Not trying to be mean, just saying.

Not to mention the youtube videos used are a downgrade from Bluray or even SD material.

You might want to rethink your strategy a bit with this.

The purpose of this thread is to compile a definitive HD version of the movie that can be shared freely, but we don't know yet if that is going to come to fruition. Hopefully it does. In the meantime, I'm making my own standard 2-disc DVD version and just floated the idea out there that I could share it with others if anyone is interested.

I've got Attack on Starfleet and Brawl by the bay from the czech BD. I don't like the idea of trading but I'm willing to torrent them if you share what you've got.

I've got these.

Would you mind sharing the iTunes commentary (in its own file, not within the whole movie's ISO)?

I think the others were confused with the wording of "trade", implying that it would not be shared except by a 1-for-1 "trade".

(but correct me if I'm wrong and that's what was meant)

Yes. Sorry for the confusion, I didn't mean to imply I would only share it with others if it was a 1-on-1 trade. I was pointing out that I planned to make my own custom 2-disc DVD  version in standard def, and would be willing to trade it with others.  As for the files themselves,  I would be happy to torrent any files that someone needs.  :-)

Ah, gotcha :) And that would be terrific! I can do likewise with the pieces you mentioned.

PS -- Great avatar, by the way :D

Yeah, the word trade kind of implies that you're expecting something in return, hence the confusion. I would personally prefer all the bonus material in a folder as mp4s or mkvs, so that I can just put it on a BD disc alongside an mkv of the movie with the commentary added, which I want to make for myself but other may prefer something else. Another factor is that to create a DVD, you'd have to re-compress the already compressed files and so you'd downgrade them further, especially with MPEG2 DVD encoding.

I second Harmy's proposal -- I've already ripped an mkv of the bluray, and would love to add in the commentary tracks and bonus material.

Any update on this?

I don't have a blu-ray burner, and the blu-ray player I finally got around to buying is not portable, so it makes sense for me to create my own 2-disc DVD version in standard def. The quality is not the best (especially with 5 hours of footage on the first disc), but it's watchable and looks fine on a 16 in. screen when I take it on my laptop.

Wow, 5 hours of footage on an mpeg2 DVD5, that can't possibly look remotely good. But to each their own of course :-)

Agreed.

I'm more than willing to share the commentary track with DRM removed. But, as I said, you have to re-encode it.

Out of curiosity, what format is it in? And how big?

Additionally, what do any of you guys use to rip extras from bonus discs? I'd guess it's a combination of MakeMKV + some type of encoding software, like Handbrake?

I'm most curious about software and particular settings you may use.
