SilverWook sent me the hard copy of the ABC cut of TWOK.  I have it seeding at MySpleen.  Read more about it here.  Thanks again, Wook :)

MySpleen?  Why does that sound familiar?

Hmm.  Don't think the art is that bad, but McCoy saying "it's" instead of "its" and referring to "Admiral" Kirk as "Captain" seems pretty lazy.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Marvel did a better job adapting Star Wars without the luxury of being able to see the movie, what excuse do these guys have? ;)

Comic book adaptations are almost aways weak. With the sole exception of the Army of Darkness adaptation, I can't think of a single one that didn't have lacklustre art and/or a lack of dynamism and/or glaring omissions.

Marvel even picked up on GL's vaunted original intent that everybody's lightsabers should have red blades! That's going above and beyond the call of duty! ;)

Most of the Marvel ones I recall reading as a kid were pretty good. Star Wars was just another movie license for them at the time. Can't recall DC doing any in the 70's though.

In the old days, they were almost always done without benefit of seeing the finished film, so that they reached newsstands close to the release date. I have no idea what the lead time is like now.

TMP had an almost Phantom Menace level of merchandising, which didn't sell well, and there was very little TWOK stuff as a result. That might explain why there wasn't a comic adaptation in '82.

When movies are now in our grubby little hands mere months after release, I'm not sure comic versions have the same impact they once did.

I've got someone else's copy of the ABC cut up at MySpleen now, if anyone is interested in comparing.

I still am trying to figure out the Kobiyashi Maru test. Every situation is very different. different characters and relative forces and positions. I suppose flag officers who have experienced these difficulties would want to test cadets for their determination to complete their mission and/or save their crew in the most extreme circumstances. The ability to find surprising solutions would be a bonus. That, or it's just a clever script device.

Apparently, someone at FOX News thought copying the 2009 Enterprise bridge was a good idea. ;)

Those are some big ass iPads!

Maybe there is a mirror universe where they are actually journalists on a quest for facts.

^ I love that the designer thought "Let's have giant iPads!" forgetting that made the staff look like Borrowers.

I'm counting down the days until Jon Stewart has a few screengrabs from those giant iPads revealing an email that nobody was supposed to see.

I've worked in quite a few satellite ops centers.  They all look like the enterprise.

I think it's part fanhood, but I think it mostly comes from it being a good design for a commander to coordinate lots of different technicians doing seemingly unrelated tasks.

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

I had read somewhere ages ago the design of the TOS bridge was studied by the military. A testament to the talent of the production designers.

That NSA "bridge" looks like a cross between Trek and Flash Gordon!

Captain's Log, Stardate 1987.2.  The crew of the Airship Enterprise and I have been given our most difficult assignment yet.  It seems I must... kill... Bones.

I don't enjoy Star Trek. It is a soulless science-fiction.
I'm sorry to hear that. There are some misses in the 700+ hours, but it's far from soulless.
