STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread — Page 3

Clone Wars was what the prequels should have been. It had everything the prequels were lacking. Good stories, good actors and likeable characters. And I think "Rebels" is in good hands.

I'm disappointed that the new bad guy has a lightsaber.

Given his stated job is to hunt down surviving Jedi, it makes sense.

Only if he has skills with the Force. Otherwise, it would be a pretty one-sided fight. I just have an issue with seeing yet another Sith understudy. This shouldn't be happening in the given time frame (shortly before ANH).

Has the exact time frame been pinned down yet? It's a twenty year gap between ROTS and ANH. I wouldn't expect it to be too close to the original film to duck the issue of why we don't see Leia doing her thing, or run into anyone else familiar.

They probably don't want to overuse Vader. The prequels and TCW proved Palpatine goes through a lot of expendable henchmen.

I wonder if a certain pair of droids will show up though.

It is set 14 years after ROTS, and will focus on a small group of teenage rebels. So, you can expect to see a 14 year old Leia at some stage.

Oh no...I just realized they'll probably bring Palpy back. When the brilliant Ian Ambercrombie passed away they replaced him with Tim Curry. I like Tim Curry as an actor but he's AWFUL as Palpatine. =(

It is such a relief to see this video and to hear the reverence for the original Wars.  For the first time in 16 years it finally sounds like there is someone in charge who understands Star Wars again.

I'd very much like to see a non-Force using lightsaber weilder who can hold his own against a Jedi. It'd be a refreshing change of pace.

JEDIT: Just saw the image of this new character. It's just another stupid Maul knockoff. God damn this stagnant piece-of-shit franchise.

At least Tim Curry's accent sounds English, the actor who's doing Tarkin's voice sounds a bit Australian

I agree,.....everything was looking great,.....until they went back to the Prequels

So... uh, when was it decided that this series was NOT going to be live-action? I must have been under a rock. That sucks. I'd rather this be live action, dammit!

Is this a joke?

Not sure how you could've thought that, since it is Lucas Animation!

They talked about a live action show for quite some time though. (The Disney deal may have permanently put it on the back burner.) Whether the scripts written for that are being used for Rebels, I have no idea.

The live action Star Wars show was to be about the underworld in Star Wars. Think the Sopranos in space and you're just about there.

They wrote a bunch of scripts and then realized it was too cost prohibitive to do for television and so they put it on the backburner and were going to wait it out for the costs to go down.

1313 was supposed to be a sort of tie-in to the show and kept going forward into production long after they shelved the show. Then of course that eventually got cancelled.

Rebels is an all new show with no ties to any of the previous efforts.

I think Stephen Stanton did an excellent job as Tarkin.

Oh, yeh I know plenty about the live-action TV series they have planned, and I think it will still show up sometime, probably on ABC since this is Disney.

Just hopefully if that series comes out, it won't be the disappointment Agents Of Shield was.

Uh yeah....I don't think we'd ever see the live action show on a Disney channel. At least not if it stayed true to its original premise. They wanted to go really dark with that show.

There's quite a few episodes that show Anakin's [] conservative views.

Conservative views?

Tell me more.

Not even ABC?  You're saying darker than Lost or Agents of SHIELD and more like Sopranos and The Walking Dead?

Good point about a non-Force sensitive fighting a Jedi. That's one of the appeals of Batman; he depends on gadgetry, wit, and training to take down super-powered beings.

The Inquisitor may take aesthetic influence from Maul (what's inherently wrong?). . . but I'll be cautiously optimistic until I see him in action. I welcome you to the same.

I kind of agree on that. But unfortunately they were full of clone troopers and other crap from the prequels. Yes, I hate clone troopers and I got sick of it. I think they are boring.

Now a few words about this new guy with the lightsabre. I hate it. Are they really that unoriginal and incompetent so they can't think of something else? And it pissed me off (as the same crap in Force Unleashed) when they say "to hunt down the remaining Jedi". Isn't that Vader's primary job ffs?

Can't really call it The Clone Wars if there aren't any clones in it. ;)
