I think we can all agree that Star Wars was either dead or dying
Depends in what sense. Star Wars has been more or less alive for almost 40 years. And it is not just about older fans keeping it up. OT really is something great and it has the ability to easily generate new fans (with no advertisement). There are numerous of younger people who hadn't even been born when the trilogy was released (myself included) and later became fans. And I am not talking about the prequels here (I dislike them), I am talking about OT.
I agree that Disney's acquisition makes a huge "advertisement" for Star Wars in general and more rapidly exposes it to the new generations (as the prequels did in that sense).
But as I said, either way, OT would not die off easily. It is still hard to miss it. If one just goes to IMDb, it is practically pushed into one's face (since all 3 are in top 100 all-time list).
