I just wanted to say that I love this.

My uncle's German VHS was my first experience watching the OOT versions of ESB and ROTJ and I did watch SW in German back then as well, because my Czech OOT copy was like 4th generation and pretty worn out, so the German version does have a great nostalgic value for me.

On a related subject, I'd love to give this to my uncle (who's German), but he doesn't have a BD player, so it would have to be an SD DVD - is there any plan for an SD version, or should I make one myself?

You can get a decent blu ray player from Sony for under 80 EUR:

I own that one myself and am fairly satisfied. If he were to get one I would be happy to burn a copy and send it to him

So, are you suggesting I buy my uncle, whom I don't see more than once a year, a BD player just so he can watch this edit once every five years or so?

:-D

No, I'm just saying he should get one himself to see what his nephew has been up to and why he can't come visit him more than once a year.

This looks just fantastic Laserschwert! I have been eagerly waiting for someone to finish up a project like this. It has been far too many years since I have been able to watch my old German PAL Vhs tapes. I really want to relive the experience from the original German transfer. Those caps and title shots are making me giddy. Incredible thanks to you (and Harmy) for working on this and offering to share it with the rest of us.

I have a two questions regarding the audio tracks:

1) What exactly did you edit on the 5.1 track? Did you just cut out the SE parts or did you also reverse changes in existing scenes? And how good did it work? :-)

2) Is any of the 2.0 tracks Dolby Stereo/Dolby Surround or are they just normal Stereo? And if yes, which one? ;-)

1) I mostly removed just the big SE chunks, as there are probably too many audio changes to remove them all seamlessly. You might notice that Han's "Das kann ich mir vorstellen" is still the SE take. You have to listen to it yourself to judge how well you feel it worked ;)

2) Honestly, I don't know. I'm really not a pro at audio editing, and while I am able to edit pretty seamlessly, I'm not really fit at stuff like surround matrices. Technically all the tracks were just ripped the way they were (from the GOUT-DVD and both the THX and SilverScreen LDs), so I guess any surround information within those tracks is still present.

a heartfelt THANK YOU to all involved!!!!

I'm so much looking forward to watching the movie (and ESB and ROTJ in the future... ;)) in its original form... too many "enhancements" over the years got me increasingly disconnected (especially the old vs young Anakin exchange :P) and now I'll enjoy them in an appropriate form :))

Hi. I just started a new thread (http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-Despecialized-Edition-The-International-Blu-ray-Project/topic/16467/). My goal is to bring together all the foreign preservations together on a same disc to give all non native English speakers like me a choice between the original version and the version they grew up with. Would you be OK for me to use footage from your version (namely: the Opening and ending credits and the Greedo bit), giving you credit for it of course.

Thanks in advance.

Please bear with me if I tend to get too excited about anything or say too much, I have issues.

Can somebody direct me to where I can get this? I've been trying for days to get it on the spleen but no such luck.

Luke threw twice…maybe.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU! from the bottom of my heart.

This will make it possible for me to see the version which was released in my homecountry when I wasn't even born - something I longed for my entire Life. The only "Original" STAR WARS Version I saw as a kid was a 30 minute shortcut of TESB in German e.g. "Das Imperium schlägt zurück". On special occasions my father and I used to watch movies on his super8 film projector, and he happened to own this short film - A little STAR WARS Fan was born the first day I was allowed to watch it with him. I will never forget that. For many years this was the only part and version of the original movies I knew. When the new episodes came TPM etc. I was not allowed to watch it. But the second and third one I went to the cinema. I always felt like "meh... seems too much cgi for my taste... and Hayden Christensens acting seems a little stiff...but hey it's STAR WARS, and I liked the movies a lot." I can't remember axactly when I was able to watch the "originals" I think it was the Year of the DVD-Release of 2004. In that time I still thought Wow, now I know them all". Boy was I irritated by the CGI-Stuff in thise old movies, I had a bad feeling about this... (see what I did there?)

And when I found a thread about the Greedo-scene, I started reading and reading and reading. I couldn't believe my eyes how much Lucas had changed over the years.

I found Adywan's projects and the fanedit community, including all the other edits of the new trilogy etc.

I found info about the limited Edition DVDs and got ma Hands on them. And I was of course quite disappointed by the image quality of the GOUT - But that was the first time I saw the real STAR WARS movies.

When I found out about Harmy's Despecialized Edition v.2.0 , boy that was a good day haha. I was blown away by the quality. I was moved by how much work he and everybody else here on this forum put into their own projects.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

So here we are several years later, and finally I'm looking forward to be able to see the long version of my first STAR WARS experience in the near future.

Until then the original english versions (and the beginning of "Krieg der Sterne" thanks to Laserschwert) will fill this gap.

Regards from Germany, and may the force be with you all!

Dear Laserschwert

Dear Harmy

I haven't seen this version of 'Krieg der Sterne' for almost 20 years ... until yesterday. Thank you for this awesome piece of restoration.

The Force is with you!
