Got the four replacement parts without errors.
Still, attempts to repair the archive are failing
and verbose mode isn't offering many clues.

Anybody suggest a different par app to try?

This may sound like an overly-obvious solution, but have you renamed the replacements to the same filenames as the originals?  I had to do that when it still would not unpack initially.

Replacements had the correct names; however I did notice the broken four still present in the directory with *.1 suffix.
Unfortunately removing them didn't make a difference: par2cmdline failed again.
phpar2 failed.
MultiPar failed.

Surely I can't ask Shirley or anybody else to repost forty rar parts.
Anybody fancy creating a new par set? 1% redundancy would suffice.
Roughly equivalent to reposting a single rar part.

No hurry. Haven't finished the other ESB sides yet, nor even started grabbing ROTJ.
Thanks in advance to anybody who hasn't yet deleted rar parts after unpacking ESB-Side4

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Unfortunately I deleted the rar's and par's because I thought the problem was fixed and I needed to clear the hdd space.  Is it possible for me to make another rar archive with the same size parts and make some new par's?  If so, I can generate some new pars and send them to some transfer site or google drive or something for you to download.

Luke threw twice…maybe.

Very kind of you to offer-- if you're very bored, or very curious.
Since your rar was uncompressed and unencrypted, it should be possible.
I cannot guarantee it would work every time, but I have done it successfully before.
The sfv would verify it

Here is some more Par's.  This link oughtta work for a couple weeks I think.

Darth Mallwalker, if althor's new pars don't solve the problem, PM me and I'll re-download side 4 and help you out.  (By the way, forty incompletes is a high number.  I had only four damaged files, and the rest were fine.)

So if I've understood correctly, in your case repair wasn't required-- only verify and unrar.
I do believe the original par set is b0rken.

As althor kindly supplied more redundancy than I needed, I reinstated those four damaged files giving me 44.
Then repaired the lot using the new par set. In like Flynn!

Forty or more incompletes is a lot, no doubt.
Though I suspect hiccups from my Internet service provider to blame, not the news service provider.
(A month from now I'll have new ISP so no worries.)
With diligent redownloading of parts I might've reduced the forty considerably.
Nevertheless if NSP has even one incomplete part it would've been unrepairable
if the par set was bad, if my theory is correct.

That new par set should be posted for posterity methinks.
To show my gratitude I'd volunteer to do it; however, my ISP seems flaky
and probably best posted under althor's name anyway.
Then some posterior who's not following this thread might have better odds finding it.

Thanks to Chew and Mattman for your suggestions.
Hugs and kisses for althor!

Yes.

I believe you're right.  It's a shame that I never thought to check when I had the files.

EDIT:  By the way, I downloaded and repaired all sides of ROTJ without incident.

Something is not right somewhere, I would suspect Althor's news service provider? His posts don't seem to propagate well. I attempted to DL his finished version of the JSC ep4 about a month ago. I'm on astraweb and it was riddled with bad blocks even though it wasn't a very old post. I was unable to repair it with all pars, it wasn't even close. For comparison I was able to get Dark Jedis version of the JSC off astraweb which was a 3 year old post.

I appreciate all your efforts, and hope to see someone put together a nice anamorphic DVD9 from this capture. I think The JSC and the Technidisc are my favorite sources. They're a little raw, but they seem so much closer to a film transfer than any of the DVNR sources.

I've never uploaded a finished version of the JSC to the newsgroup so that must have been another user.  I do plan on posting the new par set to ESB side 4 sometime soon though. I was just waiting to see if Mallwalker had any success :).

Other than that, I think all of the files should be in working order.  It sounds like several people have been able to download and unpack everything successfully.

The keyword in this post is Astraweb!! I have been with them for 10 years now but recently the service has been diabolical to the point of being useless. It is so bad that they stopped answering my emails about broken posts and simply do not seem to give a shit.

To get around this, I have signed up to another block download account and that has managed to get me out of many a hole and completed the downloads that Astraweb failed with. Once my Astraweb account runs dry, I will be binning it completely! The name of the other block account that I now have escapes me for the moment but can find out if anyone is interested.

Yes please find out, I was wondering if it was only me that thought Astraweb has been dropping the ball lately.

Thanks

Found it. Blocknews.net

So far it has recovered everything that Astraweb failed to do.

Well worth a try and the pricing is reasonable.

usenetserver.com is great. I've been with them for nearly a year now.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

My bad, I just assumed it was you who posted it. The NFO has your name in it, It was upped by "gonk"

Astraweb very well may be the problem? I haven't really had much problems with them though, except for very old posts.

The raw cap of SW:'97SE is available now.  The last par2 file seems to be way too big to post but other than that everything went fine. I'll have to adjust so the par files don't get too big next time.  If anybody has trouble let me know.

If there is interest I'll start preparing ESB and ROTJ for posting as well.

I would be so happy if you would upload ESB and ROTJ.  Since DoomBot and I have the DTS theatrical audio for these we might be able to do some preliminary synch work on them.

Of the JSC, you mean? If so, yes! I see it going for ~$150 + S&H sometimes.

I luckily got my copy for $50 + $6 S&H on eBay.

Atm I am solely focused on making the raw captures available. In that respect, I am nearly finished.

The 1997 SE Trilogy is now available.

I have 2 more raw captures to post:

1982 Pan and Scan

The Phantom Menace

I'll probably start working on doing that next month.  After that, I plan on re-doing the IVTC scripts for the JSC and hopefully can learn from my mistakes last time and use all of the tips given to me to fix all of the previous problems.
