Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 396

I don't currently have a GOUT-synched copy of the '85 mix, and don't have time to synch the Mallwalker rip that I do have.  I think there's a synched version out there, so perhaps I could get a copy of that and level-match it as I did the other tracks, assuming there's enough disc space to include it here.

Isn't there a GOUT-sync'd copy of the '85 mix on DJ's V3?

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

This would be awesome if I could do something like this on the DeEd BD, because then it could pause on each despecialized shot and explain how it was done and show some before/after footage and stuff but it's just way out of the realm of possibility here.

Even if you cannot author your disc like this, it would make a nice framing device whereby when you select the extra, you show the scene, then 'rewind' to show how it was done - they could work quite well on their own.

Harmy, are you still planning to do something like this for the extras, or was this superceded by the Sources Documentary?

Years ago Molly sync'ed 7FN's rip of the '85PCM (from his shrinking-ratio LD.)
CatBus got it from me a few months back, and hairy_hen is welcome to it as well.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

I have LD (1993 definitive) rips from many many years ago of all three OT movies with LPCM audio. I remuxed the LPCM audio to v2.0 as a test but the audio isn't in sync, it's about a quarter second too early.

Your despecialized version has a slower opening text crawl correct?

Anyone who cares enough about such a thing can take the 5 min. to do what they need.

Which is fine for anyone who knows about such things, but for the many of us (the most perhaps) who don't know one end of MUX whatsit from the other (assuming they even have ends), the learning curve would be a brick wall - i.e. impossible for all practical purposes.

I can wait.

Got 16 on the color sensitivity test.

Most of my issues were concentrated in the area centered on red; the center of the blue area was also screwed up.

I have the 1985 mix in flac format as well.

If it was up to me, I wouldn't give a crap about lossless audio, especially for the mixes that are already sourced from lossy sources but I want to put out a quality release that even the audiophiles here can appreciate.

THANK YOU!!!!

I've already waited for 2.5 over 2.1 anyways, and the big draw for me was finally having lossless sources for all the tracks. (Though it's obviously not going to help the mono much, being from the restoration project)

I personally really can't tell the difference - hell, I just recently tried listening to a 96000Hz 4608kbps FLAC of a Beatles song and then a 44100Hz 128kbps MP3 and couldn't hear any difference whatsoever and this was on my friend's hi-fi equipment.

Fingernails on chalkboard...to each their own but this kinda stuff drives me crazy. In music I find it makes a huge difference, and with the SW mixes it actually does a large part as well, especially the '85 and '97 mixes which are the only ones I've heard lossless versions of.

Argh, I'm really sorry to keep delaying and making people wonder what's going on.  A combination of being kept busy with schoolwork, internet connection problems, and going through something that could soon turn into a nasty breakup (and would leave me without a place to live) are contributing factors.

Personally, I blame Zoidberg.

The audio tracks (yes, they are all 100% lossless) are ready to go as soon as they can be uploaded successfully.  For some reason I haven't been having much luck with that, but I'll get those blasted things up there if it kills me.  The 70mm has been optimized to the point where I'm probably not going to touch it again unless a true discrete channel copy became available somehow; I also have the mono mix with the film version of the Fox fanfare spliced in, and the stereo mix from the digital source with all the dropouts and other errors completely eliminated by patching in parts of the analogue version.  Both are level-matched as precisely as possible to the 70 in order to maintain consistency of dialogue when switching between tracks—rather than relying on DialNorm to do this, I rendered new files myself after careful listening tests, to maintain the highest quality.  I'll also add my isolated score, which in addition to synching the music to the movie has also been heavily re-equalized to sound like it does in the movie, and not shrill and nasty as it does on the CD's.  Maybe I should start a new thread for all these things so they can be found in one place.

So, that's where I am, anyway.  Sorry for making everyone wonder . . .

No worries, life interferes. Thanks for this massive amount of work on all the tracks.

Does it matter if the '85 comes from the JSC or the SWE?

I laughed at this, but still, you're mixing Futurama and The Simpsons, which makes your reference incromulent.

I certainly hope that the multiple mixes in lossless audio doesn't fall by the wayside as well; it's one of the biggest draws for me to getting the DE in Blu-ray format! I for one can definitely hear a difference. My favorite of the mixes after hh's (really looking forward to the retooled 5.1 mix!) is the 1985; I know it's more dynamically compressed, but the stereo separation is great and the music sounds fantastic.

I have a question, I noticed that in some scenes of this movie mainly the TIE fighter/XWING scene you can see through Darth Vader,s eye lens, well did the people who made the official BD and DVD release make a change to cover that up or did that remain unchanged the whole time?

hairy_hen - sorry to hear about all the chaos in real life, that's always a bummer. Good to hear it's confirmed that the lossless stuff is lossless though ;)
...If you want any help getting said files to the internets, let me know via PM - I'd be glad to help in any way.

BuzziRules - fair enough. There will still be options - I'm sure someone could help you, or we just wait for the blu ray... It really is a very simple process to add audio, and it can be learned about and done in literally 5 minutes with a quick "click here, do this" type of guide, no brick walls involved ;)

Harmy - great to hear you're going for a set time for the mkv!!!!!! The authoring of a BD will be the "fun" part.. Even without audio ready, I'm hopeful you can figure out some kind of authoring that will work out the way we hope it will (especially without re-compression.. which has already been discussed quite a bit).

@hairy_hen: I'm really sorry to hear about your troubles - if you can get the audio to me during next week, it would be great but if not, don't worry about it, I'll just release the mkv with the lossy versions and then people can mux the lossless tracks in later - for the BD, I'll wait as long as it takes for you to finish them :-)

@DVD-BOY: It seems like I will be pretty lucky if I'm even able to do a basic menu, so I don't think I'll be using any advanced features like that.

@analog: I'm definitelly not using any method that would require re-compression - if I couldn't find a way, there simply would be no BD.

Adywan made some excellent menus on his Star Wars revisited project I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you copied his menu design exactly

Yes you are right, I just finished watching that scene on the official BD release and Darth Vader,s eyes are still visible through the eye lens I am surprised they never bothered to "fix" that.

Don't you can use the Soundboard on the official Star Wars  homepage for some parts of the dialogue, original CDs or Vinyls for music and some other source for sound-effects and combine it with original LD-sound, to recreate the movie-sound on your own?

Creating an audio-file with more than two channels, to recreate some version of an original cinema sound, which don't exist anymore?

We already have that, for all 3 films, lossless.

EDIT: But they were created using an entirely different method.
