It'd be cool to see this explored more, as well as the death of Alderaan, as they could be quite similar explosions.

Perhaps if you were to re-choreograph the Death Star Battle, you could introduce some more Tie Fighters throughout the battle. Whilst Luke is in the trench, there could be other Rebel Fighters holding off more Ties. When the rebels withdraw, they could be pursued by these remaining fighters. The exploding chunks of deathstar could smash the Ties to bits as the rebels weave through and escape.

It'd murder the pace of the scene, but an edit might totally change the dynamic of the film anyway (such as a surviving Death Star for ROTJ).
