Looks like the hoopla with the uk not getting everything is unfounded.

My uk steelbook came and my digital copy and itunes extras are downloading now

My steelbook has also turned up, so I will look into what tools can UN-DRM this evening.

Just need to keep an eye out for the bonus discs now.

Mike, would you be able and willing to share the iTunes extras in a way that they could be utilised for this all-encompassing project?

need to find someone to do the disc building and encoding first. I don't have the tech sadly.

Just received my Sainsburys discs - it was no more expensive than any basic Blu-ray release so I didn't begrudge the purchase. The extras disc is indeed just a DVD, but if SD versions of these clips are of any use to the project I'll be happy to share them.

Aimersoft DRM Media Converter works I just tried the trial with the ship to ship video and it works

Didn't work for me - just gave me an itunes error.

From the language they use, it sounds like they are screen scraping the video rather than doing a 1-2-1 conversion.

The only tool that does remove the FairPlay DRM appears to be no longer developed.

Any word on the other bonus discs?

-- UPDATE --

OK, a bit more luck, so it appears that you cannot play extras in a separate window, which trips up the software.  I've managed to convert the video but now have an issue with the audio:

1. It's out of sync
2. It records your audio output so mine had a YouTube video mixed in with it...

Getting closer though.

-- UPDATE 2 --

Got everything working ok, now trying to work out which output format gives the best quality, because of the way the system works it needs to transcode in realtime it seems, so the quality isn't exactly the same as the original - I've dropped the makers of SoundTaxi an email to see why they don't support Lagarith or similiar AVI codecs - I guess because you're supposed to be making direct a device compatible file.

-- UPDATE 3 --

Having checked my UK Steelbook Mike, the PS3 says it's a Dolby TrueHD 7.1 track - I've only got a 5.1 reciever though.

I'm getting all the bonus discs but I'm not dealing with re-encoding. That's some BS right there. :(

Looks like someone on BD.com already removed the DRM from it. Jeez...anyone know how to do it?

I think the only way is with Requiem, although it error'd out on my machine - I think my iTunes is too new.

Noteburner appears to be the best 'converter' at present.

So here's the good news: I was able to remove the DRM.

The problem is that now I need to figure out how to demux the resulting file to build a proper m2ts file without re-encoding.
YAMB isn't working. Any suggestions?

I have problems sometimes about mux/demux... here is the list of software I usually use to mux and/or demux:

  • TSmuxeR
  • TSRemux
  • GDSmux
  • AviDemux

hope one of these will work!

They all work with m4v files? I tried tsmuxer already and that certainly didn't work.

I'm glad I stumbled in here! I cancelled my preorder at Amazon because of the word spreading about the bonus features fiasco, and I was hoping that someone, somewhere, was going to at least try to compile all of the materials.

Best of luck to everyone involved! I wish I could help, but I have no knowledge and am borrowing a computer that couldn't handle it anyway!

It’s really sad when the “creative minds” behind something we hold dear are also guilty of its destruction.

i'm hearing now that the supposed superior German version that's been a hot topic is exactly the same as the US / UK retail version. no shifting AR, no additional features even though they were all classified by FSK

I got target and I got the ITunes file.

Did anyone buy the Canadian Blu-ray?

Whoever can collect and re-author all the special features together will be my hero! No way am I buying this movie four times.

I'm thinking a custom-made fan version of Into Darkness could have the theatrical version of the film itself & the "enhanced commentary" version on Disc 1 (too complicated to do seamless branching since the iTunes version is 30 mins. longer and rewinds stuff, just do two separate movie tracks), and all the bonus features like "making of" featurettes, deleted scenes, trailers & TV spots, production photos, etc., can be on Disc 2.

When it comes to deleted scenes, so far only the "shower scene" has been made public, and it's only available online.

I see people on some Blu-Ray forums trying to justify/explain it away by saying that, because the CinemaNow content was available for free and the iTunes commentary is available for digital download, it makes things slightly better. Nevermind that the "free" CinemaNow content disappeared after a day, and anyone who wants the commentary has to download the whole 4.5-gigabyte file.

From what I've read, this was entirely Bad Robot's fault, and had little to do with Paramount. The former basically cherry-picked the best content out of the bonus features, and relegated it to certain outlets, while the material that was left was put on the BR. I've been reading TrekCore's description of the bonus disc features, and they sound far and away better than what's on the retail disc.

It's a silly situation all around, and it still isn't clear why this commentary track couldn't have been put onto the BR a la Warner Brothers' "Maximum Movie Mode", which accomplishes the same thing with branching BTS features.

If we're going to make this a thorough set, we may as well start pulling together all the material we can, even beyond the bonus discs. There's some footage on the TrekCore Youtube channel (http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVkrBz1gwaCBm5gt35Lq3rA) that has footage of the world premiere, the EPK and all of the TV spots.

I've managed to get copies of all the trailers and TV spots, as well as the "Shower of Evil" deleted scene, but the only special features I've gotten from the discs is the two behind-the-scenes featurettes on the Region 2 DVD (I'm in Region 1 where its a "bare bones" DVD and we don't get those on the disc!)  I have no idea how people can rip stuff off a Blu-Ray that's in HD, and re-encode it for a 8GB standard DVD. I'm pretty sure Bad Robot could have put all these extra features on a  standard DVD if they wanted to, though.

Good luck removing DRM from Apple. It's a bitch.

Please ignore/delete my comment above, somehow I cannot edit/delete what I wrote there. What I was trying to say that removing the DRM from iTunes movies is not that hard once you have figured out how to do it.

My Canadian best buy disc is coming on Saturday. That will complete my extras. :)
