Nobody's mentioned the fact that they edited the ghost of anakin to look like the episode III Anakin.

Why didnt Lucas just hire an actor that resembled the ghost?

Because they are changes, for the worse.

The films are changed, and for no reason.

These are not the films we love anymore, and the fat old bastard keeps repeating that those films we loved are gone.

Why are they gone?

Because he DESTROYED them.

That is why.

I think the changes except for when greedo shoots first are good because it tie's in the pt with the ot. If anyone does'nt agree with me that's fine.

Can you guys who are pro-Special Edition and Lucas altogether do the rest of us a favor and stop arguing and bitching because we want the original versions?! Seriously, you got what you wanted; we didn't. And Lucas is telling us that we never will. How is that showing gratitude us fans? We have all thr right in the world to be pissed off and want the original versions. If anything, we should be attack YOU because you got the DVDs you've wanted for years. Our dream will never come true.

Okay Darth Justin that's going a lttle bit to far. George Lucas will one day release the original versions. And if he does'nt well you just have to live with it so all of you fan boys out there stop complaining the flims will be out in two days if you want to buy them buy them if you don't want to then don't buy them.

Cool, I'm glad it's fine because Lucas had the chance to tie in the PT with the OT while he was making the PT films.

However he is not that good a film maker or screen writer so he lazily decided that revision was easier than trying to fit what had come before.

So he got out his crayons, scissors, glue and giant eraser and sullied the original films.

Why not simply let Anakin keep his eyebrows in ROTS? Why erase them from ROTJ? Why not hire an actor who looked more like Sebastian Shaw? Why the cut & paste? Why not use contact lenses on young Anakin? Why recolour the original?

It's stupid, they're stupid changes and Lucas is a stupid fat old man who has completely lost his mind.

We need to preserve his legacy and protect it from him.

So I take it that all the apologists are just going to leave this forum in two days time. Correct?

I also don't agree that Hayden should as a ghost in ROTJ. Why? Well because it is idiotic. I said this before but I guess I have to repeat it. It was Anakin Skywalker and not Darth Vader who threw the Emporer down the shaft in the Death Star. It was also Anakin who had Luke remove the mask so he could look on him with his own eyes before he died. Anakin died at that point and not at the point of becoming Darth Vader. Since Anakin was saved and died at that age, Sebastian Shaw should not have been replaced with Hayden. I don't give a crap what Lucas says. You don't see Ewan McGregor as the ghost of Obi-Wan do you?

You are the true fanboy as you will buy and watch anything Lucas releases and like it one way or another. You have no right to call any of the O-OT fans fanboys just like you have no right to complain. As I said before, the versions YOU want are coming out. Check the url, this is originaltrilogy.com, right? This site did have a mission, right? If you don't agree with it, why do you post here? And don't say you do agree with it because you just said will only contradict it.

Has anyone read this review yet? Read the 3rd paragraph down:

DVD Review

This guy does a good job of articulating the common (and weak) argument against those of us who want the OT on DVD--i.e., Lucas made the films, it's his right to do whatever he wants, and he has no obligations to his fans. Since the OT folks' position has been argued for and defended many times on this forum (and very well), I won't add any more points. BUT, when this reviewer defines web sites like this and other fans who want the OT on DVD as "incessant tirades....[that are] truly getting tiresome, if not obnoxious"..., I get mad. Incessant tirades? Obnoxious? This guy needs to read the petition at the beginning of this web site. I don't think he can call such a well-written, well-reasoned, and respectful (yes, RESPECTFUL to Lucas, as much as we disagree with him) petition as "obnoxious." There are MANY fans out there like myself (30 yo) who are not fanatical SW fans, but enjoyed these films growing up and want them in their original versions to enjoy on DVD for the classic films they are. And I LOVE this (from the same review): "it would almost be a crime to leave these movie landmarks in the rut of their outdated 70s special effects." ??!!! Hmmm...yeah, it would also be terrible if they left "Casablanca" to "rot" in black and white with its outdated 40s special effects.

I'm sick of these people.

"Overall the films now exhibit a much stronger resemblance to the new films now..."

I could not agree more.

Sadly.

It almost seems that Lucas paid some of these reviewers to kiss his ass or something. At least Harry Knowles didn't bow down and give a rave review for these DVD's like I thought he would.

Luke30, I must admit that judging by the above two posts, you are far more reasonable than some who don't like the OT. Browsing TF.N (I doubt I'd ever join) I could never get the hostility some pro-SE fan's exibit. I really don't get how an OT release would threaten them to the point of bad-mouthing fellow fans. It sickens me to see such a rift in a once united fandom. Even the other day, I was being ridiculed because I appearently missed the memo that all stormtroopers are clones. Only the recent Zahn novel has even alluded to that idea, but it seems I'm stuck in "my fanfics" in trying to claim that it makes no sense that all stormtroopers are clones. It's how Lucas has decided to turn his fans, whom's opinions he cares not for, against one another.

As for me, I'm a purest. I grew up with these films. Part of the reason I loved them was the work that went into the SFX. Sure, early on the guys screwed around, but when Lucas pulled them together, it really was Industrial Light and Magic. All the X-wings are unique, the creativity of scrounging model parts and detailling a Super Star Destroyer that was set to be in only a single scene was astonishing. I'm still awed be the Falcon shooting out of the flames of the DS II. In the SE, every X-wing was the same model. A town on a backwater planet is now a sprawling metropolis. Bespin has magically changing windows, and pilots that like to buzz the towers. Vader returns to his shuttle so he can ruin the tension of our heros' escape. Jabba repeats Greedo, Alderaan supernovas, Audry II fills in for the Sarlaac, and a rebel lookout post is right next to the hanger.

On a unrelated note, nice to now that I'm not the only anime fan here. What fansub group do you work with, Molly?

My fansub group is CVME, which is mostly just me and some freelancers... - mostly I revise older subs (such as Animempeg's of Ebichu, and various subs of the Sailor Moon anime), though I've also finished up some scripts from another group I was in that vanished (CosPrayers ep.1), and have been working on some original material (Sailor Moon live-action and musicals) - my torrent of the Sailor Moon musical "Kakyuu-ouhi kourin" is doing quite well, well over 500 completed downloads...

I guess I would fall in between the Purits and the Non-Alligned. I want the original versions released on DVD, but I also want the originals to get the same cleaned up, remastered, THX treatment that the 2004 DVDs have gotten.

Some of the things that Lucas had done in 97 for the SE were fine with me. Removing the matte lines and the entire clean up of the Hoth battle, some of the expanded Mos Eisley, and a few of the other minor changes I thought were fine. It didn't change any character arcs nor did it alter any of the plot or pacing. Things like Luke's scream, Greedo shoots first, Vader shuttle sequence, Jedi Rocks were all just silly and not needed.

I'm also all for Lucas fixing the films to his heart's content as long as the films that I saw in 77,80, and 83 are preserved and made available to me on DVD. All that we're asking for is that both versions be made available. Let us, the public, choose which ones we want to be. Don't tell us, 'either buy these versions or go without.' And that is basically what Lucas has stated. Now who is being disrespectful to whom?

It looks like Bill Hunt updated his review and mentioned the ANH audio problems I mentioned earlier in this thread. It would be a terrible shame if all of the discs have to be recalled for one problem or another.
Glad I'm not buying them.

im gonna end that rant by thanking the people who enjoyed it because only they know the frustration one must feel....

second i want to let people like Luke30 know what the definition of a fanboy is
someone who will support Lucas no matter what the man does.... they are a fanboy of Lucas... so all this calling us fanboys makes no sense and just really makes yourself look stupid... we are purists (if thats what you want to call us)

to the person who asked if all these pro-SE people are going to leave once they get their DVDs...
i say i sure as hell hope so...
i have nothing against you guys as people who prefer the SE.... but now that you have what you want.... would it really hurt to try and help fans of the same movies get the versions they want?
or are you that greedy that only you may be happy in this world...

RANT OVER...

actually he got a response from Lucas on those audio problems...

Quote

"We are always impressed with how closely fans listen to the many different sound mixes we have made for the Star Wars movies over the years. It is flattering to know that, indeed, the audience is listening. Consequently, each mix comes out differently and any changes that you hear on the all-new Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround EX tracks on the Star Wars Trilogy DVD set are deliberate creative decisions. We can confirm that there are no technical glitches as reported."

never have i heard such bullshit come out of ones mouth...
they fucked the DVDs up and since its such an anticipated release they dont want to bother with a recall...

i guess that prevents Lucas from losing any money..

Their excuse for the audio problems is just as bad as the complete bullshit statement made in a recent Lucas interview on why the films are finally being released.

WTF, you're saying that Majin Boo was inspired in Jabba the Hut? LOL, Freeza IS a wakling Death Star, he blew up planet Vegeta with his finger.

Well, most of the space battles featured in todays movies (and I suspect Star Wars is also under this effect because GL was in Japan during the early 70s) were inspired by the 1974 anime Yamato, which featured the first real space battles ever, and the Star Destroyers have a huge similaritie with the Yamato starship.
