Big thanks to Echo3 for this transfer and thanks too to lacerated for the upload.  Willl finally get  to watch this at the weekend, don't ever remember it being shown in the u.k like this so despite how bad it may be, it's stilll a treat for me being such a massive fan of this film.

Very excited to see this version. I remember this is how I saw it for the first time when I was young. I'm sure the uncut version is the one to watch, but this will be neat just from a nostalgic point of view.

How can I get a copy of this TV edit of John Carpenter's The Thing?  My brother and I grew up watching this great movie.  For years we the only version we watched was the television version we had on VHS.  Unfortunately because of Hurricane Katrina, we lost that version.  His birthday is coming up next month and I'd like to get a copy of this for him for his birthday.  Any help would be very much appreciated.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but can anyone share this? The version on YouTube is such poor quality, would prefer to get the "full" version. Thanks.

The youtube version is sourced from the VHS to DVD transfer created in this thread.  The original version isnt much better.  It is a 10 year old VHS tape.

I have the TV cut of Halloween II, recorded from AMC before they made the switch to HD (when they switched to HD, they started airing an edited for content and time version of the theatrical cut). It's in 1.33:1, so of course it's pan and scan. The 30th Anniversary Blu-ray released by Universal has some of the deleted and alternate scenes from the TV cut as an extra, but not all were included.

Could I get a copy of the tv version of the thing? Would be interesting to see the new scenes.

The New scenes on the Thing are available on the dvd or Blu-Ray in the deleted scenes section. What is missing is the voice over during the alternate ending with the dog.
They are also on youtube.

I have the Criterion CAV set with the tamer TV footage that has to be programmed in order to watch.

This little ditty looks interesting though.  I'll search it out.

I'm interested to see if the alternative opening matches what I saw on cable several years back.

Yes, I have been following the upcoming BD release. Hopefully, the TV cut quality is not the same as what they did for Army of Darkness.

It all really depends on what Universal supplies them with? All that apparently exists of the tv cut of Halloween 2 is an old broadcast video master.

I’m not even sure if they are getting the TV footage from Universal. A lot of times, it seems like they are getting VHS recordings of TV broadcasts and not broadcast quality video.
