Will we finally have Lapti Nek in HD?  Could it be?

I know I do! ;-)

Ab queck zenick fesi, baby.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Though Jedi is not as popular on this forum I love it and I think it had the most egregious changes made to it.  I'm thrilled thrilled thrilled with the quality of what you've shown us so far.  Maybe now that the blog is gone you can drop the occasional screenshot here as a treat!

Oh no, I feel stupid now for not getting the hint =|

I totally got the hint, but thought someone else would have said something about it before.  ;)

Good updates.

Just try to limit the amount of time between future ones, ok? ;)

That's great news. :) Those re-scans you mentioned, was that to re-scan with filmguard the parts that had been scanned before filmguard was being used?

The Star Wars trilogy. There can be only one.

Just to answer another question.

1) The parts that were re-scanned were not those. We had to do tests with several other things, and decided those looked better than the original ones.

2) Releasing all 3 movies at once would logistically be harder, and you would have to wait longer. However, they 'may' be released out of order depending on how things are going.  Odds are ESB might be released first, we'll just have to see what works out.

Don't worry, we'll keep you updated.

3) Anyways, as someone else requested, another teaser from ROTJ:

This is looking good.
ESB first? OK.
I will ask this.
With ROTJ in the works
is there a chance of getting
Lapti Nek and Yub Nub cleaned up
early so Harmy can use them?

With -1, the key is patience and not asking questions. The Team will not be rushed.

But you've got the posting style down; that's something.

Just want to express my excitement also, that this project is still moving forward

I've actually never seen the original Lapti Nek sequence in anything resembling high quality--it was either VHS or GOUT footage--so this will be great.

 And Vader's eyebrows.

Luke walking under the X-Wing's wing prior to the SE Biggs scene. Please :)

Yeah, that would have been good but as I'm not doing another version of SW until this project is finished, it's now moot. The ROTJ scenes on the other hand, would be totally awesome. And some scenes from ESB as well of course.

I remember years ago, shortly after the release of the GOUT DVDs, a member of some other forum saying that one day a really dedicated Star Wars fan would get his hands on a 35mm print or two and go about making his own restoration. I never thought I would actually see that but, shit, here we are.

Mike Verta's being doing just that for years, hasn't he? The caveat of course is that he was never going to release it...

Harmy, we will definitely work with you when the time comes, so we'll be in touch about getting you some material.

JEDI is LPP, so some stuff needs some color correction, but that's about it.

1) Actually everyone, feel free to ask any questions. We don't mind, whether we can answer them or not (especially when it comes to release time frames) is another story.

2) I don't want to say it's a done deal, but the release for JEDI will be super quick (relatively speaking) after ESB, if that's how we do it, because there will not be much to fix.

3) You're not dealing with -1, he is distantly involved with the project, but  has moved on. You're addressing the Team.

4) And of course, more previews:

5) And another one...of...(!)

6) Normally, we don't pay attention to people that keep declaring projects are dead, or because they don't see something in awhile. Let's just state it one last time, just because you don't hear anything for awhile, DON'T ASSUME that something is dead, or done. It's not DEAD unless we say we aren't going to do it. This isn't aimed at any person, but just wanted to make it clear that if you think this project isn't going anywhere, why are you following it?

You're sure

you're not

-1? You post

like him :-)

Anyway I'm very very very happy this project's not dead and you're even going to supply Harmy with new sources

This is really awesome news -1 team!

I am curious about a few things...

Are you scanning all of your new sources with your homemade transfer machine or elsewhere?

Do you find that the transfer machine you built can output in great quality and do not feel a scan from an"official" machine could do any better?

Are you planning on fixing any of the footage that was warped in the initial ESB print or has that gone bye-bye in favor of the new sources?

Is Hoth blue or white???

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

Are ya'll still using a camera with a Bayer filter?

If so, then at 2K you have an effective resolution of...

1024x1080 for the green channel

512x1080 for the blue channel

512x1080 for the red channel

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

A full aperture 2K scan is 2048 × 1556, but it depends on the AR on the film as to what you get out the other side. If it is flat/scope/super35 etc. changes how many pixels you end up with, as does whether you are capturing sprocket holes and soundtrack in the frame which reduces the picture-area resolution.

A bayer filter does have that 50%/25%/25% split of GRB, but in practice the resolution is better than that for each channel because of the overlapping of the bayer mask over multiple photosites. It can lead to false colour sometimes though.

LOVING those screenshots!  Thanks for sharing them!  :)

Looking good.

Question.
Is there more than one copy of ESB and ROTJ?
I know for ANH or SW there is also a red copy.
What you have looks grate but with more than one copy
it could one day be even better.
