It would be an interesting alternate version. Of course the change would be to the detriment of ANH, but it would be a plus to the coherence, consistency, and (perhaps) quality of the trilogy as a whole.
Also nice would be that it fixes an apparent plot hole in ROTS wherein the Death Star takes 20 years to build.
