I have a good feeling about this

i just saw Empire of dreams on the bio channel here in the UK and i was surpised and shocked. Why well when they were talking about ANH when they showed the footage of the death star blowing up it was the O-OT footage and it was all nice and clean like it had been cleaned. They was loads of footage from the O-OT in it and about 2 mins of 97SE footage. I know this was the 2 hour one and not the 2 hr 30 one from the DVDs but this must bold well for the O-OT release in the future as instead of pretending it didnt exist or that the 97SE was the one shown in cinemas in 77 they actually showed footage from it. The films still exist in there proper forms and since Lucas always changes this mind im betting that a classic set of just the O-OT films and maybe the old docs thrown in for extras will appear on DVD after the episode III disk has come out. I never expected to see DVD releases of the Ewoks films which i remember seeing at the cinema when i was little(they were only tv movies in America in England they got cinema releases and it made them more watchable) or DVD's of the Droids and Ewoks cartoon so i really think that the O-OT will come out and billed like the faces THX as the last chance to know. Disney do that trick of saying last chance on video then 8 years later the film is re-released. If they dont ill be surpised i think due to the success of the 2004 DVD's Fox will say to him that they is clear market to expolit still here. If they dont then i will be disapointed but thankfully im lucky enough to own the 1991 UK Widescreen vhs's 1994 Widescreen vhs's and the 1995 THX Widescreen faces vhs's as well as the big black box set from 95 plus the amazing tr47 DVD's.

I agree with you, although I'm no technical expert on filmaking, you would think that it would be better to start with the the original source of the film (in it's purest form) before they added any of the special addition changes over the top of it. so it would make sense that Lowry actually restored the original version cut of the film, even if only for archival purposes .

if we ever got the OT on DVD that day would go down as the greatest DVD release in history...
no arguments

The new Jabba for example could not have been done over the Special Edition Jabba. It would have had to be redone with the original footage. The original versions are about 40 minutes of footage between the 2004 edition on all three movies. Theres hope definutly but I wouldn't count on it. Until then these DVDs seem just fine for me.

One extra thing. The Indiana Jones DVD includes a digital fix of the glass reflection between Ford and the snake. However the DVD documentary shows that show remastered with Fords reflection. Just saying don't get your hopes up. Still this does give you guys the opportunity to cut together the original movie using movie editing software and the footage of this documentary.

THAT'S THE SORT OF CHANGE THESE SPECIAL ADDITIONS SHOULD BE ABOUT, FIXING DODGY EFFECTS SHOTS, NOT REPLACING THEM WITH MORE DODGY EFFECTS SHOTS.

I have complete faith in the release of the Original Trilogy...Lucas must have a bit of historian in himself to make his statement about the Three Stooges being colorized...fans and devotees, time is the game we have to play.
I will cultivate patience to such a degree, that time itself will grow tired of waiting.

Welcome enommaz, and yes. Good post.

I also found your sig particurlaly enjoyable.
"The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." - Goering.

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it." - Goebbels.

"In times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act." - Orwell.

that is a nice sig...
lol

i once thought that way too but lately i've lost all hope...

i went into Future Shop last night to do some DVD shopping and to my amazement everyone was wearing SW shirts preparing for the big arrival...
so i talked to one of the kids at the cash who looked to be a fan of the movies....
so we chatted for a bit about the DVDs to which he was angry with as well... he said he was still going to purchase them (ArG!) but i wrote down the site for him and told him to come by if he wants to....
i guess im just pissed that people are getting all excited about something that doesnt even deserve that kinda of attention...

ya im bitter...
lol

You forget George Lucas made Star Wars. The stooges are dead and those colorising it have nothing to do with originally making it.

I was using this as an example because its in the documentary doesn't mean it will be released as a movie someday.

what about Sebastian Shaw?
he's dead...

and im sure some of the people who worked on the special effects are no longer with us...
is that how we give credit in this world is once their dead we get rid of all their hard work and accomplishments???

No, that is tampering with the original material, and I do not accept it.

I actually like changes like those. If it was a silly mistake there's not really a reason why it should be in the final film.

Shaw is still in the movie. The only scene were he had any dialog he is still there. Hes not Anakins ghost anymore but all he did then was stand there. The only scene where he really did anything he is still there. Unless you consider his lack of eye brows to be erasing him.

i consider taking him out of the movie in any scene is totally disrespectful...
that was his role...
not Hayden's...

well in all fairness when Lucas dies they can take his name completely off of ESB and ROTJ....
he still has his name on the one he directed... but not the others...

and by your logic thats okay right jimbo??

In some ways the change does make sense. A force ghost takes your last true form. Obi-wan and Yoda were good up until there deaths which is why there ghosts still appear old. The last time Anakin was Anakin was when he looked like Hayden. Not a limbless burned up corpes in a mechinical body. The good Anakin is Haydens part. Shaws part is the dieing corpes behind the mask.

Fact remains that if Lucas had intended things to be that way, he would've filmed it with a stand-in younger actor for Anakin at the time.

I would disagree with that. How exactly are we supposed to know who that kid was? Not to mention that you'd be pissed that they would be replacing that kid with Hayden.

I think you would draw your own conclusion watching it. Would you seriously question who it is? But the argument isn't even valid. It's just another product of Lucas constantly changing his films for what he wants at the moment. I think the fact that there are 3 (or maybe even more) different versions of each of the films shows how retarded this all is. But anything's better than From Boyz To Jedi.

Totally disagree. If he had a stand in young actor it would have just left everyone confused. It also would have made making prequals harder. Now that Attack of the Clones is made he can now put that in with little confusion. I still don't consider this a good change since it does create one plot hole. Luke nodes at Anakins ghost like he knows its his father. Wouldn't he have been like who is this guy.

What? How could it have made making the prequels harder? He's changing the Original Trilogy to be in accordance with the Prequels! Your argument is not valid.

Uh... if some strange kid just popped out of nowhere I would probably question who it was.

It's not that uncommon for directors to have multiple versions of their films. Ever seen Close Encounters? Apocalypse Now? Alien? Aliens? T2? etc, etc?

He'd need an actor who looked like the one he would have to get in 1983.

thats the point though...
Lucas never wanted it to be that way until now...
jimbo has just turned his back on his mentor... lol

still doesnt explain how Luke recognizes Hayden though jimbo...
so Lucas still screws up
