My god, this whole Boba Fett pursuit thing is getting out of hand.
We don't need to be spoon fed every little bit of information or have everything explained. the audience is more intelligent than that. Biggest problem with the prequels is the over explanation of everything. This kind of film making just talks down to the audience. Have people become so brain dead in the video game age that they have to have everything explained on screen?
Now the scenes is so simple to understand. There needs to be NOTHING added to explain what's happening. It's all there in the film. The falcon leaves the garbage after the imperials have jumped to hyperspace. They think they're alone. no other ships in the area. So the sensors aren't on high alert trying to detect anything in the vicinity. Why would they be scanning for any one pursuing them when they think the only ships have all gone to hyperspace? As they leave the garbage, Boba's ship fires up and follows them. In the original there isn't the camera pan shot of slave 1, so that is the reason why you see the garbage in the final cockpit shot. At this point in the original Slave 1 is only just leaving the garbage field (you can clearly see that he is NOT hanging around in the garbage field as he is moving past the garbage at this point). Now, we see in the SE that both ships have left the field before the cockpit shot. The only reason why you see the garbage in the final shot is because they screwed up and forgot to remove the garbage. It has NOTHING to do with them trying to show that Boba held back in the field so as not to be detected. It was just a continuing shot in the original that no longer works in the SE.
We see Boba checking his scanner then closing it and turning his chair to face forward (the scanner is to the side of the cockpit). Then there is a wipe. We know, from later events, that Boba doesn't follow them all the way to Bespin. He gets there with the Imperials BEFORE Han and co arrive. Now Boba knows Han.
So here is what we can deduce from the information:
He is supposed to be one of the best Bounty Hunters in the galaxy. He has been employed by both the Imperials and by Jabba to capture Han. So he would know a hell of a lot of information about Han's past associates. So he knows which direction they are heading, checks his scanners to see what systems they could be heading to, knows about Han's past association with Lando and correctly calculates where they will be heading. He would also know that their hyperspace engines aren't functional because they would have jumped as soon as they could, but didn't. We know that there isn't anything nearby from leia's statement earlier on in the scene, so destinations are limited. So Bespin is the only logical choice given Han's association with Lando. He then lets them head on their way while he rendezvous with Vader and then they head for Bespin and lay the trap.
it's all there in the film and doesn't need a great deal of imagination to work it out.
All that needed doing to that scene was to have Boba fly further back from the Falcon ( the hyperspace jump was an experiment and isn't in the final version of ESB:R). The Special edition version made it look like he was flying even closer to the Falcon and that had to be changed.
