Simon Pegg — Page 2

Nemesis is about the same if not better than Star Trek (2009) (which is pretty much a remake with a bunch of stuff from Enterprise thrown in) which is a slightly better film than STID (which at times plays like a spoof which to be honest is the big problem I have with Star Trek IV).

It's a better film than the highly over-rated First Contact (which is a remake of Aliens which is a remake of THEM!).

The main problem with Nemesis is it's a remake of TWOK and I think you can see where I may go next with this.

Yes, but I haven't seen any STID stuff in the toy aisles. Most of the summer blockbusters are represented. Even that snail movie got a toy line.

ok, no toy, so what?   It doesn't change my point.  No Trek fans, no Trek movies.   No Trek movies,  Pegg doesn't get paid.

Just guessing here but...

You don't like Simon Pegg (and JJ) putting his heart into STID, then reacting angrily when some fans diss it way out of proportion and saying "F*ck you" in response.

...you prefer George Lucas' approach (Who didn't put his heart into the SE changes) of mocking and laughing at the fans who are irritated by the SE changes via his commentary tracks. Plus inserting a gag to annoy the fans into a scene from TPM.

Just so long as George doesn't use a naughty word in the heat of the moment, it's fine. Much better to bide his time, then come back years later and dub Vader going "Noooooooo" and digitally inserting Hayden into ROTJ to piss everyone off. It seems in the SW world, revenge on your fans is a dish best served cold.

I don't mind him putting his heard into STID, if that is what he did.  I mind his response to the fans.   I thought it was a rude thing to do to the people that pay him.

you couldn't be more wrong here.   I hate George Lucas.   I thought the PT was terrible, and I can't stand the fact the he refused to release the OOT.   The way he treats fans is a disgrace.

I have no idea how my criticizing Pegg lead you to this conclusion about me.  Any one that has been in this forum for a long time can tell you that it is wrong.   I have never liked any of the changes to the OT.    Not why my criticizing Pegg means I can't also criticize Lucas.  You make no sense.

Didn't mean to cast aspersions, I'm sorry*.

I was just trying to lightheartedly contrast how much of a non-story Simon's response was, with how certain others choose to handle fan criticism.

btw This small group of foolish ST fans merely voted STID as the worst to send a big FU in JJ's direction in the first place. Simon was just responding in kind.

(*You could've just told me to f*ck off?.. joking, joking, sorry)

And then punish everyone else involved who didn't say anything negative to the fans?

punish them?  who is talking punishment?  I don't even want to punish Pegg. I am just saying that the Pegg's Salary comes from the fans, and Pegg shouldn't be rude to them.

I think there is a disconnect in your logic.

Old ST fans who are more likely to have hated STID are not going to be the ones throwing money at J.J. Trek products and ticket sales. It isn't like when the next J.J. Trek comes out they are going to say, well, I was going to go see this turkey of a film, but since Simon Pegg is an ass there is no chance in hell I'm giving any of my money to him.

Pegg doesn't even get a salary from working on Star Trek.

Author

That is a good point too. Actors don't get "salaries" from films.

Also I should add that anyone who is an actual fan of Simon Pegg isn't likely to be bothered by his "fuck you" comments, even if they were one of the ones who hated STID. That comment fits with the personalities Pegg exhibits in his own projects.

A lot of actor are total d-bags and probably think a lot worse of their fans than a simple f-you. Christian Bale is obviously a complete asshole, and the sort of person I wouldn't think twice about avoiding company with, but it didn't stop me from enjoying the Batman films he was in and contributing a modicum of finances to his job security (as it were) by purchasing tickets to those films. Mel Gibson, Alec Baldwin, and plenty of others seem like really, really horrible people, but it doesn't stop too many people from viewing projects they are involved in.

This Pegg stuff is such a minor thing.

I am not sure what point was made, as I have Bingo blocked.   But um . . .  yeah Actors do get their salaries from films.   No film, no money for actior, it is that simple.

not sure of that.

it is minor thing,  but I still think it was wrong of him to do that, just because the people that paid to see his movie didn't like it.

maybe not, but if not for them, there would be no Trek today.   Old ST fans kept Trek alive between the end TOS and the first movie.   Without them, Trek would have been a long forgotten and J.J.  would have nothing to remake.

again this idea that I was arguing that we should withhold money from Star Trek due to Pegg's comments.  That is not what I arguing at all.   I am merely arguing that Pegg should treat the people that actually pay him with more respect.   When I pay the amount it costs for ticket today,  I have every right to sound off if I don't like the movie I watched.

I'm sure he treats Paramount and Bad Robot with the upmost respect.

That is part of what sucks so much about J.J. Trek. Fans kept it alive all these years so it could go on to become a crappy series of summer actions movies that they hate.

Old ST fans aren't necessarily going to hate J.J. Trek. While I'm by no means even remotely old, the only ST I really like is TOS (which I love), and I watched long before J.J. Trek. And I love J.J. Trek, his are easily some of the best Trek movies there are, in my opinion.

Paramount pays his salary. With money from completely different, other movies and CHEERS reruns. So Pegg should really pay proper respect to everything ever. But really, who gives a fiddler's fuck.

The fiddler's wife or girlfriend, I'm guessing.

true, but they do this in expectation that the movie he is working will make them more money and that money will come from the Trek fans.   No Trek fans, no reason to take money made from other movies and Cheers ruruns to pay Pegg.

James Doohan LOVED the fans, and his pleasant real life nature was visible in the character of Scotty.  I truly don't like Pegg's Scotty (as I have stated previously on the forum), and it just may be that his real life nature and personality are coming through in his performance.

It's usually a big wake up call for newer Trek casts when they discover how big the whole fandom part of it really is, and how amplified anything they say or do will become in those circles. And for some of them it is "just a job."

Even the TOS vets aren't safe. Nimoy's book I am not Spock was misconstrued as a deep loathing of the character, especially when he wasn't going to return for Phase II, or what eventually became TMP.

Shatner famously told a throng of Trekkies in a 1986 SNL skit to "Get a life!". Some people took it as a serious statement about how he really felt about the fans. He was constantly asked about whether he was joking or not for years afterward, even using the line for the title of one of his books.

As for flipping off the fans, I've heard of things other Trek actors have said in the past that were not very polite, so this is hardly anything new.

Christopher Eisenstein is finding he can't run from the Who fans in much the same way and he is going out of his way to avoid any further connection to that show.

You've made a lot of assumptions here.  Why can't the fiddler be gay?  Why can't the fiddler be a woman?  Why can't the fiddler be a gay lesbian woman who is married to a wife...wait, that would make your answer...wait...

What was the question again?

Author

The question is thus, "is it okay to use social media as to swear at complete strangers because you don't agree with them?

Apparently not if there is a lose connection to payment.

As I clicked the post button I considered some of those things and pondered who would be the first to call me out on them.

However, I did not consider the possibility of the fiddler being a lesbian. I like that. Our hypothetical copulating fiddler is officially now a lesbian and she is married.
