Fan Made Star Wars DVD set???

I'm not trying to get into anything bootleg related. I have no interest in the Star Wars dvd. I want the special edition on dvd. Does anyone know of a way to get that? I saw another thread here with all kinds of Torrent links but here at school they won't work for me. Basically, if you guys could respond to this and give me some ideas about what to do or who to talk to I'd really appreciate it. I want it on dvd, but I don't want what George is offering.

I'm sorry to sound lazy, but I have a lot of work to finish up right now. I looked around quickly and noticed some sort of dvd thing from TR47? Can some kind sould give me a quick summary of what that is all about rather than make me sift through pages and pages of threads to find it? Thanks!

TR47: http://www.ioffer.com/bi/tr47--Star-Wars-ORIGINAL-NON-SE-Trilogy-4-DVD-Set-w-Bonus--1.1-0.3-3630790

I received mine last week (the 7-Disc Collection), and was more than satisfied. All the vintage special features were a great bonus! Of course, these are the original versions of the films, so if you're looking for the SEs, these are not for you. I recommend it anyway, though.

tHE tR47 SET IS BASED ON THE ORIGINAL THEATRICAL RELEASES, AND NOT THE 1997 SPECIAL EDITIONS i BELEIVE YOU ARE REFERRING TO. MOST OF THE BOOTLEGS MENTIONED IN THE THREADS ARE BASED ON THE ORIGINAL VERSIONS

Thanks for the help. Does anyone know of a similiar set done for the 1997 Special Edition? I grew up on the Special Edition not the 1977-1983 version. It would seem strange to me to see things missing now. Any help/suggestions?

The 1997 versions on DVD? Quite bizarre...
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

the 1997 version is nearly as bad as the most recent version, in my opinion....

Then why do you want them?

Maybe for the same reason that you "hired" the official DVD set. (Traitor! )

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

Lucas, Lucasfilm, Fox recieve no money from the hire. AND, I've keep them off the shelf for a week!

I meant to say it's NOT nearly as bad. Haha, sorry. That's what I get for not proof reading. I meant the 1997 SE isn't nearly as bad as the current version.

Before they were officially released (even though more changed), the SE DVDs could be found on Ebay. I think it was called the Five Star Edition or something like that. They are the 1997 releases. I don't know if you could still find them on there or not. Also, a lot of the D9 dealers from Singapor, etc carried them. Most of those folks are out of business now (shut down by the man). I bought them a year or so ago, but only watched New Hope (which is now mysteriously missing). I grew up on the OT (first movie I saw as a kid), so all these new fangled changes you whipper snappers like... I just don't dig that crazy jive.

DannyBoy7783,

Turn on your private messaging or email me at rwafford1 at yahoo dot com. I can get you info on how to get the dual-layered, factory pressed 1997 SE trilogy very easily and cheap, but they may not be around much longer.

huh? the 1997 se version is by far the worst edition of the sw films available. the 2004 dvd edition is at least slightly improved in some areas. the pirating of the OT def ed are at least somewhat justifiable, but for this, it's just plain piracy

Why? Does not the ORIGINAL Special Edition deserve to also be archived?

I mean I like the SE's - I don't like greedo or jabba - but the rest is WONDERFUL - Now that the new offical DVD's are out the ORIGINAL SPECIAL EDITIONS are gone.

I have at least three YOUNGER friends that saw Star Wars the FIRST time as the Special Editions what about their memories?

NOT everyone on this board is 30-40 years old - SOME members only really know the SE's and have only seen the originals on TV riddled with commercials and some time with missing scenes.

Think about it NO MATTER how bad ANY of you feel about the SE's - THEY also deserve to be archived restored and converted form Laserdisc to DVDr - there are some out there now but I'm sure we can make a better capture - MeBeJedi - I'll send you my SE LD's for this if your down!

Sorry for the rant but man the original trilogy is NOT the only version of Star Wars the deserves to be remembered...

For one I'd like good XviDs of all three versions of all three movies so I can do some hacking on them. XD At least the SE I legally purchased on video, got my shrinkwrapped boxset up in the living room.

well, if Lucas considers the theatrical releases to be "incompleted" the 1997 releases truly were incomplete. but... if people really do want them... but it is closer to outright piracy than trading the theatrical release

I own the 1997 SE on vhs if that makes you feel any better

I disagree rik, I saw the SE's FIRST (and i might add not in theaters), and I never want to see them again. They may as well be forgotten. The new Jabba scene is so awful I shrudder to think what it's like in the 1997 version. I heard Han's "dodge" is meant to look more "natural" in this release - it looks silly and crap, so I shrudder to think what it looks like in the 1997 SE's.

Is there a Torrent available for the special features disc of the new dvd set? Or would that be considered bottlegging and not suitable to discuss. I mean, does anyone ehre know of one by any chance?

DanielB, are you saying your first introduction to SW was the '97 SEs? *shudder*

It was pretty much mine too. Ironically my name is also Daniel B....weird.
