Haven't been on my Xbox in a while. Got on it for a bit today. What is going on???
Now that the thing it at the end of its life, Microsoft decides to start changing a lot of those really annoying crappy things we've all come to expect and accept over the past decade? No more use of MS points? Now you can actually just pay the cost of downloadable games and content, instead of having to buy fix increments, usually resulting in making you buy slightly more than needed? That would have been awesome a few years ago!
Now you get free games with Xbox LIVE? I've had a live subscription pretty much constantly since 2008, never a single thing free. Now I've decided I don't care about it anymore, and they are throwing all sorts of things at subscribers for free now it seems. They no longer charge developers tens of thousands of dollars to post an update?
I bought Bully: Scholarship Edition for under $4 just a bit ago. A real four dollars charged strait to my card without having to spend $5 in MS points. I never would have imagined Xbox games on demand costing under five bucks. Even for games that you can pick up at gamestop for $5 or so still cost $19.99 on there. Seems like it bottoms out at that point.
If they keep this sort of thing up, and do sales where games are 80% off more often, they might actually start competing with Steam sales. Yeah, I'm not holding my breath either.
Still, when I logged onto my Xbox today, I felt like I had somehow fallen through into some parallel universe. Was kind of tempted to Bing search Firefly season 2, or rent the SW prequels and see if they were any good.
I guess Microsoft is starting to realize they better start being competitive.
