yeah but the NFL is big in the US so they get shit loads of money, the NHL is different because we dont have that big market. NHL players should be making the least out of the 4 major sports simply because the NHL draws in the least amount of money. you right thou the rights of the players in the NFL are abused but the overall system that is there is very good. with a few kinks it cold work in the NHL.

i agree that the nhl needs some kind of salary cap/ luxury tax system. Personally I am more for the luxury tax because the owners did this to themselves, driving prices way high up to out spend each other. For example, see Martin Lapointe.... $5 milllion ...GIVE ME A BREAK!

Yes the NHL doesn't have the luxury of other sports and the current system is not working. I was just explaining the fallbacks of the NFL.. not the NHL. Some of you guys are giving the owners in the NHL too much credit. Although I agree that there needs to be a compromise, let's face it, the owners are just as much to blame as the players... if not more, and now they want to bail themselves out.

I wasn't giving the owners any credit. It is true that they got themselves into this mess, much like Hollywood producers and studios did with overpaying talent. Eventually the shit is going to hit the fan in professional sports and entertainment and a lot of former millionaires will be jobless. The pot that holds the world's money is not bottomless.

the thing is that the way things are going it really is the players, players liek lapoint wold hold out till they get salaries like that. there are only 2 or three owners to blame and those are the rangers, the wings, and the leafs. the thing is that the owners have no choice if a star player holds out then they have there hands tied. owners need players like that to get money, and get good teams. you are right though the owners are a lil at fault.

Lapointe only held out because boston made the ludicrous offer of $5 million. You tell me that you're gonna turn down 5 million? And who said Lapointe was a star player? Mid level at best. He had one good season and teams started going wild for him. At least the wings had a chance to match the offer, which they didnt thank god. A guy like that shouldnt be getting paid more than 2 million and even then....

well AHL are the farm teams of the NHL...
thats the best kinda hockey we have around here... plus its almost as exciting as the NHL because these kids arent getting paid millions of dollars...
they're working hard to get to that point...

so i kinda prefer it to the NHL

I can't wait for the blackhawks owner Bill Wirtz to die. The hawks will be way better off them. Perhaps when that happens they can actually have a good team and keep it.

Hell if that happens I may have to go back to being a hawks fan. But considering that he shits on the fans I'm staying away. IE game blackouts on TV. What kind of shit is that?

The IHL is defunct, and you forgot the Western Professional Hockey League and the United Hockey League (formerly the Colonial League), and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League)

I had no idea the IHL was defunct. When did that happen? Just checked the Wolves site and it says they're now part of the AHL. Damn I'm out of it.

get over it guys, no hockey this season. I'll have to focus more on football and my world champion Detroit Pistons!!!!!!! (Lions 2-0 aint bad either

Maybe with the wings not playing, some kind of gravitational moon pull, the reverse will happen... The lions will win a Super Bowl and the Wings wont make the playoffs lol
