I actually think George did a great thing when he shot episodes 2 and 3 digitally - I do think that digital film making is a great thing at the quality level it reached now, because it can be artistically freeing - look at Slumdog Millionaire for example. And in order to get the development started to get to the quality level it reached now, someone had to make that first step and shoot a big budget movie digitally, even though it looked shitty compared to 35mm and will forever be stuck at 1080p.
What I'm really getting at is, that I think that George Lucas did the world of cinema a huge favor, when he made that first step with shooting two of the shittiest big budget Hollywood flicks ever made - it is definitely a much smaller loss than something like Lord of the Rings trilogy being forever stuck to a shitty quality like that.
