Still, let's not do anything to get in the way of this thread hitting 400 pages by the time 2.5 comes out and we all move on to destroy the ESB 2.0 thread.

I really enjoy this I will show this to my grandfather he will probably say "This reminds me of the old days when I was young and I didn't have to see those stupid "special editions". personally I hate the special edition changes such as if you read my signature about greedo shooting first I hated the CG scenes and the Jabba the Hutt scene but I still bought those for the quality same as the 04 DVD and the BD but then I heard about this and well this is good for so many reasons 1 it is very good quality (c3-po is really gold in this) 2 it has the alternate audio I was looking for (different aunt beru voice) 3 it is almost as if the theatrical version came to blu-ray and this is all good in time before 7 8 and 9 come out now owned by Disney :( but I will never have to collect again that is why I subscribed to this topic to see when v2.5 comes out

Han Shot. Full stop. Greedo never got a shot off.

I should copyright that and have it printed on t-shirts

I've been trying to come up with a good way of saying "Han was the only one to shoot", since I completely agree.  "Han Shot."  Works rather well.

I know Disney makes the color brighter on their "special editions" and that's all so if Disney repackages this it might have the theatrical version remastered unlike the 2006 GOUT but it won't be nearly as good as this

About once per week, visit this link:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Harmys-STAR-WARS-Despecialized-Edition-HD-REMASTERED-v21-AVCHD-is-now-out/topic/12713/

...

But, in all fairness, wouldn't that address change when the version updates?

It doesn't matter. Even when the address changes, OriginalTrilogy.com and similar forums will automatically re-route users who visit the old link to the new destination.

For example, when I first bookmarked this forum thread, its address was:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Harmys-STAR-WARS-Despecialized-Edition-HD-REMASTERED-is-now-released/topic/12713/

But now, even if you use the above "old" address (try it), you'll be taken to the current destination of:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Harmys-STAR-WARS-Despecialized-Edition-HD-REMASTERED-v21-AVCHD-is-now-out/topic/12713/

Thus, using old links is no problem. :)

Could I maybe just get a link to the Polish .srt subtitles?

If you ever want to download any of the .srt subtitles for your documentary, just find one of my posts and click the "Sources Documentary - Current .srt Subtitle List" link in my signature to find direct download links for all available languages!

ANSI does have umlauts though.

Ä = 0xC4
Ö = 0xD6
Ü = 0xDC
ä = 0xE4
ö = 0xF6
ü = 0xFC
ß = 0xDF

I think those are the same code points as Unicode.

Okay, stuff like this is why we were being snarky earlier, I have NO IDEA what you think you're replying to, are you even reading what we're saying before you start typing?  It is like you're some kind of bot performing a Turing Test on us or something...

We should think twice before setting up an automated announcement system.  Yes it will make it easier for enthusiasts to monitor the projects, but it would also make it a whole lot easier for certain other people to monitor them as well.  At least the way things are, when stuff gets finished, we know a whole bunch of copies will get out there before any proverbial hammer drops.

I see where you're going with this, but if the 'certain other people' want to monitor the project(s) closely, all they have to do is subscribe to the relevant threads like the rest of us.

I've already started a draft of a mail-out newsletter that people would be able to sign up to, but it would be sent at the end of each month - plenty of time to get copies out before even letting the regular enthusiasts know.  I'm waiting to hear back from Harmy if the format looks ok and then the first edition would go out Sept 1st.  (sign-up link coming soon)

So, for example, if SW:DE v2.5 is released the 2nd week of Sept, it would still be 2 more weeks before next month's edition would be mailed out mentioning the release.

I have to agree with the above.. the lower on the proverbial radar, the better..

Checking here randomly is not at all difficult.

All that aside, nice work on subtitles. Any progress on test authoring with existing render?

I don't know - look at revisited - it has its own FB, Twitter and news website and so far it's fine.

I'd agree that less visibility is better on a project of this sort, regardless of our truly good intentions.  We should probably hold off on trying to help the masses find Original Version salvation till well after Jedi 2.x is released, since the ultimate point here is that the DE gets made in the first place.

"Security through obscurity" does not work.

Author

As a Linux user, I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment, but at the same time "security through obscurity" has its biggest problems when the thing in question has more visibility and is subject to higher scrutiny.

There is the argument that Linux is more secure because it is better written and the code is open for in-depth review, where Windows just hides its gaping security holes; while that is all true in a respect, Windows has so much more of a virus problem than Linux primarily because it is more widely used, making it a higher value target for attacks.  Heck, even the Linux base of Android isn't keeping it from getting tons of malware, now that it is a prominent OS.  So, I think that, even with the huge shortcomings of a "security through obscurity" model, there is something to be said for keeping a low profile.

Well the thing is that even if we try our best to make it as legal as possible, a fanedit (or a preservation for that matter) is illegal because it is made out of copyrighted material. I hate copyrights, because it sometimes have ridiculous results. For example, I own a LOT of DVDs and Blu-rays, I even have some entire TV shows. One of the TV Shows I'd gladly buy is "Malcolm in the Middle", which I'm a big fan of. Unfortunately, because of typical French copyright laws, the producers of the show aren't allowed to sell it here on DVD. Countless shows of different qualities even had their theme changed only here for the very same reason and are released here altered this way: House, Prison Break, Heroes (and I don't doubt many others) come to mind. I own the entire Malcolm in the Middle series as French-dubbed TVRips. I'd gladly give them my money just to make it legal and having the original soundtrack, but they just don't want to. That's stupid. For Star Wars it's almost the same thing: us fans want the Theatrical versions, but Lucas is keeping us illegally downloading gigabytes of data with every release, and waiting for an hypothetical release while he could just release it already, respecting his own statement about cinema history at the same time.

Voilà, it was my nightly rant about human stupidity.

Nice!

Although, it's not really Lucas' decision any more.  It's more up to Kathleen Kennedy at Disney - who has already killed several projects that LucasArts had in the pipeline.  (sigh)

That's the big one that got me.  The site is still up but nothing there about it being ended so - fingers crossed that another publisher picks it up.
