As rough of a place as it can be, the world is still a pretty awesome place full of all sorts of fantastic things to look forward to. But you're bound to miss it when you spend all your free time watching 10 - 15 horror films a week.
Actually, I haven't watched all that many movies in the last couple months due to all the Star Trek episodes I've been watching =P I don't even have the stamina/drive to watch 5-7 movies a day anymore.
...
The Bride (1985)
I expected this movie to be a more schwaltzy re-work of The Bride of Frankenstein with some bittersweet romance between Sting and Jennifer Beals, and I didn't expect it to be anything more than an average film at best. As it turns out, though, the plot was completely different from what I suspected, and it turned out to be a pretty good movie.
The parts with Clancy Brown and David Rappaport are definately stronger than the parts with Sting and Beals, though.
Hook (1991)
Even as a movie that I never watched all that much as a kid, it really forced me to remember my childhood and relive a lot of the emotions I experienced around that time. I'm certain that was the filmmakers' intention, though, and I give them kudos for that.
Oh, and Dustin Hoffman was awesome as the eponymous character - this is definately my favourite performance from him.
Men in Black (1997)
I've just got three observations I'd like to make in regard to this movie:
1. I found this movie very cool as a kid, but now its just so-so
2. Will Smith's performance is a lot less likeable and a lot more annoying to me now as an adult than when I was a kid
3. Too little time passes between J becoming an MIB agent and K retiring for me to believe they struck up a real rapport. The filmmakers definately should have implied that more time passed and filmed more scenes with them working together as a team before the big showdown with Edgar
