Will those of us here who contributed materials to this project be getting a copy?

So... you choose to update your facebook page and not mention the fact that you're never releasing this there because? I mean, I suppose I respect the decision, but the terseness of your message leaves me thinking this was a sudden choice. A little more class/thought put into your post here would go a long way.

I'm worried that this might be the only thing donators may be receiving for their troubles, it doesn't look good that's for sure.

Thanks for the explanation Alex.

I hope WB chills out or gets bored with time. It's odd they would even care about an unreleased project, when things like bootleg discs of the 50's Superboy pilot are still being sold on Ebay, not to mention all those complete Adam West Batman DVD sets.

No trouble at all kyfm.

I'll post here what I posted on fb

Well, here's the lowdown. A certain individual (no names, but I'm sure you can guess who this blue bomb is) contacted WB and turned them on to what we were doing so they would stop up because this person wants to be the only one with it. So as of right now we're making this for ourselves and if a copy gets around it's out of our hands.  "Ya dig where I'm coming from, brother, eh?" So it is this person that wants to ruin it all for you guys.

So I'm not imagining things? AMC was showing the KCOP cut?

Or are you saying that AMC showed the director's cut and not the KCOP?

The 152-minute cut is the '01 Extended Version found on DVD and BD, not the KCOP Cut.

I really wish Warner Bros would just give us the extended international cuts of Superman and Superman 2 already. Fans have been after them for a number of years now. I hope, being as it is the 75th year anniversary, another box set will appear with previously unreleased cuts and extras. It would be a wasted opportunity for them in terms of milking another box set if they didn't.

forgive me if i'm mistaken but i'm pretty sure the Salkinds own the rights to the extended TV versions and not Warner Bros?

WB owns all rights to the Salkind Superman films now.

The footage certainly exists, some of it was used for the extended cut of STM and the Donner cut of SII. And the deleted scenes on the Donner cut DVD seem to indicate that WB has, at the very least, a widescreen 35mm IP of the TV cut of SII - the scenes have the soundtrack from the TV cut. (At least some of these TV cuts were assembled in widescreen and then pan-and-scanned later; the deleted scenes on the Blazing Saddles DVD are also widescreen, but have the mono TV-cut soundtrack with the profanity edited out.)

On the other hand, the deleted scenes for SIII come from the pan-and-scan TV broadcast master, so who knows if they still have those?

I read somewhere (don't ask me to dig it up) that WB had planned on releasing the TV Cut of the 1st film back in '01, but Donner said he'd want his name taken off of it.  Not sure whether it's true or not.

WB now owns the rights to ALL the films. They brought EVERYTHING (including the music tracks and SUPERGIRL) back from England in late 1999/early 2000 to do the extended 152 min cut of SUPERMAN THE MOVIE and later the SUPERMAN II- THE RICHARD DONNER CUT. The DONNER CUT would have been released earlier, but Brando wanted mucho $$$, so they waited until he died and settled with the estate. The SUPERMAN IV deleted scenes would also have been released earlier, but there was much confusion to the music royalties and rights. This is one of the reasons I think the Metro Club scenes were not released.

Neither Donner nor Richard Lester had final cut say on SUPERMAN I-III (the Salkinds did), so WB can put out ANY version w/o their permission so long as they get what their contracts called for in terms of royalties and the such. It is just a courtesy and respect to ask for the director's support and backing, but it is not needed. I assume that once Donner dies we'll get all we want, as was the case with Brando and his SUPERMAN II/SUPERMAN RETURNS scenes.

As mentioned, the AMC airing was the 2001 extended 152 min version released to DVD and blu-ray.

ALL the footage is at WB in Burbank, though it has not been "restored" or cleaned up (just stored away safer than it was in England in a storage unit collecting dust and humidity) and would be done so only as needed.

Ah, okay. The way it was worded, I wasn't sure.

Still could've sworn all of those scenes were in when I saw it, but I guess sometimes the mind can play tricks =|

I would rather have Donner alive than ever see superman tv cut in widescreen HD.  We are talking the life of a human being versus that of a movie based on a fictional character.

For roughly 40 minutes this was available on capedwonder.  Did anyone manage to snag it?  I don't even think that's enough time to finish the download!

source: here.  Hopefully there will come a time when they feel they've laid low long enough and this comes to light.
