he was basically comparing as to how Canadian woman differ from the woman of Brazil..
and when he went back there to visit some family for a couple months he found out that many of his friends were killed due to drug dealing...
he said it had gotten really bad in his area... (not saying Brazil is bad for drugs... everywhere is bad for drugs, but im just repeating what he was telling me)
OK, the thing is, the whole "City of God-Tarantino" like violence, it's not real, it's not like that. If they were killed because of drug dealing, that means they were messing with the WRONG kind of people. You'll find as many drug consumers as anywhere else in the world, the problem is that the drug dealers often control some selling areas, and they result to violence to protect their selling points. This happens more often in Rio, where the city is surrounded by them. But if you have a fully functional brain you'll avoid Rio, or at least those creepy areas. In Sao Paulo, where I live, the same happens, but it's usually in a distant part of the city, so it's not that bad. Again, I'd recomend not to visit Sao Paulo, as it's not a turistic city. Violence here usually has a reason, if someone's is murdered, he was either being robbed and did something foolish like fighting the guy; or he was involved in drug dealing and did something stupid. Spree killing and serial killers are VERY rare, I remember there were about 4 or 5 in the last 50 years, and only one of them killed more than one person at a time.
Carnival (aka carnaval), yes, it is a 5 day orgy (friday night to wednesday), but it usually dosen't envolve violence or drugs. Just grab some condoms and you'll be fine. OK I'm kidding, it's not THAT "bad" (or should I say good), but I garantee, if you WANT to have sex, you WILL. It's like mardi gras (cant spell it), but it's on the entire country, and it lasts 5 days. There are some traditional cultural celebrations which I couldn't easily explain, as you'd have to know a lot about our history and culture to understand it.
The women in Brazil are different, but that's because people here are different. Latin american people (except argentine people) are more friendly, more... how can I say it... well you get the idea. People from north america and europe are more "closed to themselves" if you compare to us.
Brothels, you'll find it anywhere, sure, same thing as any country in the world. I never went to any of these, it's against my principles to pay for sex.
