The legalization crowd never honestly considers the downside of making these toxins extremely cheap and easily available. Our society is totally reliant on the automobile and we don't have any good way to measure the effects, overdoses, corruption of children and troubled teens, destruction of their motivation and ability to relate in society, rape and abuse.... The people who believe we will have a better society if Shucky Johnson is free to build his Homosexuel Brothel and Cheap Drugs Emporiums across the street from every school in the nation are devestatingly insane. That said, I know the status quo is also destructive and stupid. My "best possible" solution would be to establish narcotics clinics within about a 20 minutes drive of most of the population. Genuinely addicted adults could go there and get the drug of their choice at a small cost under tightly controlled conditions. They would have to sit in sex segregated rooms and watch videos about kicking the habit. The staff would know how to aid in OD and reactions. People would have to pass sobriety tests or have someone pick them up. It would totally undercut the black market, totally deglamorize drug use, and discourage all but the seriously addicted. I would then provide draconian punishments for anyone who encourages kids to mess with that poison.
