Wow, every liberal really is the scum of the earth!
The amount of generalization going on in this thread is pretty amazing. I see no reason that guy should be arrested.

This is one of the most idiotic things I have ever seen. Just what the hell is wrong with that shirt?
"Obey our laws"? Should people not obey the laws? I guess a criminal reported him to the police because he finds obeying the laws offensive...
"Respect our beliefs"? So everyone should respect immigrants' beliefs while demanding them to respect others is something offensive?
This is precisely the sort of liberal left wing pc crap people have had enough of.
The main job of the liberals is to protect the intolerant and label "racist" anyone who has reasonable complaints. A first class hypocrites.

Totally agree. Unfortunately this country is full of them in the media and Westminster.. Not 100% sure if everyone was aware this happened after Lee Rigbys murder?

Akin to the War memorial in Boston being desecrated after the bombings
"I believe in freedom of speech and defend his rights to say what he wants, but once it starts offending people then it's a police matter and it's up to them whether they think it's broken any laws."
Wow. Just wow.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.
This never-ending topic:
Who has had any change of opinion because of this thread? It seems to me that it's a perpetual argument without any terminating point and a lot of contention. At least in the politics thread we run out of steam every now and then and let topics die.
Recently, someone I know told me about their parent who expresses all kinds of intolerant views regarding racial minorities, gays, etc. When confronted about it, he said it's partly a reaction to society's trajectory on those issues. I suppose that would include suppression of speech and the tendency to popularize and exalt certain form of diversity. Reminds me of the super-villain cliche of "YOU CREATED ME!" But I think there might be something there.
I recognize that I sometimes play the role of this guy:
But I believe the aptly-named imperialscum and Hey, it's me are similarly reacting. I think they are speaking to the broad trends and not intentionally labeling each and every liberal and/or Muslim in a negative way. As I've previously mentioned, I date a liberal so I know they're not all...terrible.

Not yet. Application is being processed. May still have to wait for a few more weeks. Alternating between studying and posting as we type. Thanks for asking :)

I wish you guys would stop lumping all liberals into one boat. I'm a liberal and I think it's ridiculous that he wasn't allowed to wear the shirt. I'm pretty sure that most liberals I know would feel the same way. Liberalism at its best means being supportive of people's freedom to live their lives as they want, as long as they aren't hurting others. Of course there are some high profile people absconding with the liberal label, just as there are some high profile conservative whackos twisting what conservativism represents.
Just say it's wrong and stop aligning everyday people with it. Politicians are doing this, for a variety of reasons having nothing to do with the interests of their citizens.

totally ridiculous. Even if it was offensive, which I don't think it is, the guy should be allowed to sell them.
By the way, a lot of craziness that is blamed on liberals can actually be traced back to rich lawyers who aren't liberal at all, just greedy. (and greedy politicians who maintain the system that supports it, because they are in bed with the lawyers)

Well, it's nice that you believe that. Me, not so much.
Honestly, I think most rational liberals wouldn't expect that guy to be arrested either. But LIBERALS ARE HORRIBLE SUB-HUMANS so that can't be the case, it must be a broad trend that most would want to hang the guy.

It isn't about respecting their beliefs. I don't respect their beliefs. It is about respecting them, regardless of their beliefs.

Eh, it's sort of the way they declare that Republicans/conservatives are waging a war on women. That was a mainline attack by liberals which took (at best) a gross mischaracterization and generalized it. And even for those on the liberal side who might concede it was an overly broad attack, many of them would likely say there is a kernel of truth to it anyhow.
I'm with you that generalizing about all people on the other side of the aisle is not the way to go. But the politics of the left does foster the kind of prosecution of hate speech around the world and seeks a stilted idealized multiculturalism.
When a conservative says something dumb there are calls for every conservative to unequivocally denounce that person, lest they reveal themselves just as bad. Is that healthy in that it seeks to drive the particular view (or odious radio host) out of acceptable politics? Or is it a witch hunt? By the same token, is it perhaps healthy to get all liberals to denounce the kind of laws and politics at issue here?
The blue elephant in the room.
Well although it might sounded like that, my intention was not to generalise. I am aware that not all liberals are like that but a lot of them are. As someone mentioned, sometimes it is just because of their greed (getting the votes etc.).

It's the Telegraph so the story is not exactly reliable and as for the earlier comment (not Warb) about Left Wing Political Correctness.
Political correctness is a rather clumsy phrase meaning common courtesy.
I see nothing wrong with reminding people that referring to brown skinned people as Wogs isn't nice, especially when it became popular in the seventies where almost every show was peppered with racist and sexist material.
Britain hasn't had a left wing government since 1979, it hasn't had a left wing parliamentary party since 1994.
How anyone can say they have enough of the left when all we have is right wing greedy Tories wearing different colour rosettes screwing up the country I don't know.
What the UK needs is a Socialist government for a few years to allocate wealth to do things that need doing (like building cheap houses), providing employment and making the hyper rich a little less rich for a short period.
Once people are making things which China wants to buy then you can go back to having a right wing government but it's the hopping on the right foot that the South East of England wants the rest of us to do that is screwing it up for everyone else.
The country is unbalanced and when that happens people start looking for a scapegoat.
It's easier to spot an Arab by their look and a Pole by their accent than a pampered Eton Knob now that they wear jeans.

Socialism is a tricky thing. It is certainly a luxury of the rich countries. Your country first need to globally successful at capitalism (exploiting other countries) in order to have a good socialism within its borders (for example Scandinavian countries). If a non-rich country tries to have a socialism it will be just making everyone equally poor. But even a rich country must be aware to what extend it goes with socialism because if you go too far you will make the "successful" people unhappy and that will gradually lead to degradation of your country on a global scale. And when that happens you will not be able to have the luxury of socialism any more.

All the fault of Left Wing politics.

Even if you are to swallow whole the propaganda of an oil money funded right wing internet source where do you get left wing from that load of nonsense?
It's so nice of you to jump when people pull your strings but these stories are exactly the same crap the Nazis put out about Jews and we all remember where that ended.

I'm fortunate not to want my Country to be global scale.
Just Scottish scale and we can afford it once we dump Westminster's obsessions with Nuclear bombs and parasitic Financial Services.
A period of Socialism would benefit Capitalism.
Nothing undermines capital more than monolithic international corporates.
Corporate Consumerism and Capitalism are not the same animal just as Thatcherism isn't the same thing as Conservativism.
These things are happening wether you like it or not, and just simply choosing to brush it away as mere propaganda is living with your head in the sand. The whole political correctness thing grew out of the Labour Party in 1997 and has grown into the monster it is today. Labour= Left Wing Politics=political correctness.
Stop watching the news, stop reading the news and you will feel better...
It takes time to wear off but once you do you can live your life properly and not in ignorance

Err... no
Political correctness was used by Socialists against Communists in the mid 1940's
It had it's main peek of UK relevance in the late 1970's and early 1980's when it was being used by left wing leaning people against right wing bigots.
The obvious example being so called "Alternative Comedians" like The Comic Strip vs traditional stand up like Jim Davidson and Bernard Manning.
This was used by the then Tory government of the day as a bogey claiming that loony lefies were brainwashing toddlers into being gays.
New Labour is not left wing, it's Torylite, It's Low Fat Thatcherism and under Millibland has no chance of being elected (not that they want or need to be).
In ideal world yeah. But unfortunately I live bang in the middle of where these things are happening. I'm not against peaceful immigrants who come to work, contribute and peacefully integrate. I'm not racist and I'm not ignorant to what's happening where I live. What I am VERY much against is the rapidly growing social/political idealism of Islam in my country.
Er, yeah
If by your country you mean your city you may have a small degree of a point.
Currently 5% of English residents are Muslim in the rest of the UK the share of people with a religion other than Christianity is around 0.5% and Islam is just a minority within that tiny minority.
I don't believe that 5% of English people everywhere are Muslim.
So it seems to me that most Muslims in Britain are corralled in English cities (mostly in the north but London has a large share too) which paints a distorted picture.
Particularly if those Muslims are wearing traditional clothes and beards and opening clothes and food shops catering to their tastes.
To label all of these people as Jihadist is as absurd as calling all Jews Zionists or all Christians anti-Semites.
