This guy made a pile of mods to a Pioneer CLD-99  LD player, including a video output bypass that circumvents the circuits that (in their heyday) cleaned up the video signal before piping it out via RCA or S-Video. His mods apparently produce about the best video signal you can get out of a laserdisc player. I can't thoroughly explain it, but for all the tech-junkies, it might be worth a visit to his youtube page. If anyone could produce the best copy transfer off of the CAV GOUT discs, I'm sure he could. He's also on AVSForum here, if anyone wanted to petition him.

I've been scouting for a set of the SW LD's for awhile now.

that being said...

CAN'T Wait for 2.5! The blu-ray burner is hooked up and ready to go!

I have done these mods and more to an X9, it does improve the signal, but only a little.

Hi

I'm new on this forum and I'm a big unaltered trilogy guy

Bought the GOUT with the terrible image because I liked it more than Greedo, Boba Fett fucking new voice and ESPECIALLY Jedi Rocks/Hayden Christensen

I just read recently about the despecialized editions and checked on Youtube the video Harmy posted recently and I must say that you're a genius!

I'm definitely getting these versions, they look amazing!!!

I'm just very confused about the different versions released...you're the new Lucas lol

So there's the 1.0 for all three movies

2.0 (or 2.1?) for Star Wars (will there be any for ESB/ROTJ?)

2.5: Same question? When will those be uploaded? Is there a target release date?

Thanks a lot

We've all been waiting for a release date Harmy wanted to finish it a long time ago but school and some technical issues go in the way. It is late June so school should be out by now and hopefully he solved his technical issues I know he was having some issues with Blu-ray authoring and he was also waiting for people to provide him with video. No idea what is holding up the release at this particular moment as Harmy has not posted much updates so one can only hope that he is in the final stages or maybe he is waiting for project Blu version 2 and other such projects to finish.

A 2.5 for ESB and ROTJ are in the works as well so let's see who finishes first Harmy or Adywan

As for your question regarding the differences in version numbers I am not sure about that and to further add to your confusion there are also partially despecialized editions whether that would be pre 1.0 or those are what the 1.0s are I don't know so hopefully someone can sorth that out for the both of us

It's really not that complicated.

Right now:

2.1 = SW
1.0 = ESB
1.0 = ROTJ

Personally, I don't see any reason to wait for 2.5 for SW.   Version 2.1 looks awesome and 2.5 will only have minor tweaks that I rather doubt I would even be able to notice.

There's only one problem with version 2.1 though.  Unlike 2.0 there's only an AVCHD and not a higher bitrate version.

Still looks unbelievably awesome on my 58" plasma.

Yep, still looks great on anything I've seen it on.

As has been discussed a little bit before, the higher bitrate doesn't seem to have done a whole lot (for 2.0), but will improve some of the mild artifacting in places. The 2.0 MKV also has a boat-load more audio tracks, which adds some to the overall file size.

Overall, I believe Harmy was going for a good "in-between" bitrate - slightly higher than the current AVCHD (2.1), and a little less than 2.0, in order to accommodate for lossless audio, and the extras. Should be a great compromise :)

Hey guys, I'm sorry about the lack of updates lately - it is unfortunately congruent with the lack of progress. Don't worry though, I'm not abandoning this project or anything - there were some setbacks from real life but everything should get back on track soon.

In case anyone watching this thread has been holding out downloading current versions of the Despecialized Editions through MySpleen.org, there's site-wide freeleach going on right now for a few days, meaning your share ratio won't be affected.

Just sayin'. Might as well enjoy v2.1 while we wait for the glorious v2.5!

Feel free to PM me if you need an invite; I still have a few left.

No no, just school and some futile efforts to find a summer job. The silver lining is that the futility of those efforts is good news for the Despecialized Editions, as I'll have more time to work on them during the summer :-)

I'm both glad and sad for you that you didn't find a summer job. It'd be legal, I'd be glad to donate at least €10 per film (maybe even topping the price of the official original trilogy Blu-ray  set by a symbolical €1 for the entire trilogy) just to thank you (as it was said countless times) for this gift you're giving to the history of cinema.

The problem is it'd be illegal, as Harmy's work is considered a fan edit, and it's illegal to sell a fan edit as it's made with copyrighted material. Hence, my "It'd be legal".

Seriously illegal and would be a great way to get the forum shut down.

That's what I was saying, yet I feel we owe a lot to Harmy, more than Thank Yous and other "my childhood memories came back to life" (speaking of which mine are closer to Marvins' French preservation, which is based on Harmy's 2.1). Of course I'd rather buy an official release if it existed. But it doesn't and I believe any work deserves a salary, or better yet, recognition. And of course Star Wars theatrical preservations have a special status, as there's no legal offer, except for the GOUT which is of awful quality compared to HD, as we all know.
