Thirdspace was made in 1997 but held over for broadcast until 1998 so that it could sell straight to video. This is made uncomfortably obvious to Claudia Christian fans as she is in it even though she had made a rather messy departure from the show by 1998.

The Star Trek production team were infamous for poaching ideas, character names and technical staff from the B5 team.

DS9 does suspiciously resemble the original pitch for B5 which JMS delivered to Paramount first they turned him down because they weren't interested in doing a science fiction show set on a space station.

Not going to wade into that one. Let old blood feuds die.  ;)

I will mention the SF film "Arena", which was made a few years before both shows. Claudia Christian, Marc Alaimo, and Armin Shimmerman all play characters eerily similar to their later respective B5 and DS9 roles. Did I mention the film is set on a space station?

Anyway, I came across this movie on TNT in the middle of the night back when B5 was still airing on the network. For a good half hour, my sleepy brain tried to make sense out of what seemed an impossible crossover between both shows. How the heck did I not hear about this?

Shout Factory is releasing it in a four pack with some other never before on DVD SF flicks next month.

B5 fans seem to be a bitter bunch. When I left the B5 reunion at the PHXCC some dude was all, "Yeah did you notice how none of those trek nerds dared show their face at the panel?" He was very hostile toward anything Trek related.

I guess I'm not that surprised since Stracyznski seems to enjoy fanning the flames.

Life's too short for such nonsense. I like both shows anyway.

Same here!  Mr. Bester is one of the best recurring guest villains IMHO.

Both shows haven't aged well.

The macho crap in B5 does tarnish it's sparks of brilliance.

The incidental music in DS9 is torture.

The fates of the spin offs haven't helped the B5 legacy either (the kung-fu gun control in Legend Of The Rangers is the most silliest thing I've seen in a television show).

B5 had some amazingly framed moments though.

Nearly all the incidental music in modern televised Trek became awful under Berman's tenure. (One of the guys who wrote some of the best scores left TNG because of clashing with Berman over it.) Using that sub elevator muzak on Trials and Tribbleations was a big mistake.

I'm just getting into B5 now. Was never interested when it originally aired. But after hearing Bruce Boxleitner talk about the show and his experiences last year I decided I should check it out. I then proceeded to forget to do so until this year. After attending the B5 reunion I finally got around to diving in. =P

After season 3 of Enterprise a in house catchphrase was, "Poor He-She they hurt Him-Her".

B5 is a great show, the only problem are the incredibly fake looking CGI effects. They looked fake even in the 90's

I thought they looked pretty good in standard definition at the time. If not for the Amiga/Video Toaster platform used for the FX, the show might have been too expensive to make.

TNG never had battle scenes on the scale B5 had, and DS9 didn't attempt it until they had CGI.

They looked a bit odd in the first season but I swear they were really impressive after that at the time.

The Amiga/toaster was only used for the original version of the pilot which is as rarely seen as the original version of Star Wars these days.

Foundation Imaging who worked on the first three seasons went on to work on Star Trek from then on.

Staff members went on to work on NuGalactica.

The pilot might have been too expensive to make without it then.

I recall B5 FX shots being used to promote the Amiga back then, so clearly the truth was being bent a tad. ;)

Many years ago, I used to chat online with someone who worked at Foundation when they did the TMP Director's Edition. They were loaned the original movie Enterprise miniature to study for the new shots. Even though the model had been stored in a crate, it was dusty and covered in insect droppings! The photos I was allowed to see of the big E in that state were a little sad.

Now realize that they sold ALL of the models to heaven knows who. Because they could be anywhere in any state. That makes me very sad.

I mean, look at the freaking Galileo 7:

A lot of TOS items were simply tossed, (pun not intended) so it's a miracle the full size prop survived at all. The more recent photos show the restoration is coming along nicely.

This article about the Galileo's future home claims the restoration is already complete.

I wonder where the Galileo miniature shuttle is today? It was rescued, partially restored, and used in a TNG episode as set decor.

It would be so cool to own a authentic miniature, but how to take proper care of it? The larger Enterprise D model was showing some visible stress cracks when it was auctioned off. Even the SW models in Lucasfilm's care seem to be in rougher shape these days.

Yeah, there's no way that was unintentional. Gene and company must have bust a gut slipping that by the censors.

Which reminds me...

Alas, I can't find a screenshot of the scene where Lore is reassembled, and someone is actually holding his android booty.

Ah, Robot Chicken ... a truly mixed bag of Dadaist brilliance and stupid toilet humour if ever there was one.

What kills me is they got Brent Spiner to do that.
