I don't know but seeing as though he was in hiding, I don't think mingling with the locals was on his agenda. Maybe when he ventured into Mos Eisley to get supplies he didnt wear his robe. Shrug.
It's more that Uncle Owen wore the same clothes (because its supposed to be Tatooine garb). Was he cosplaying as a Jedi, in a post-prequel universe?

Well don't forget, Owen was Obi-Wan's brother. It's mentioned in the novel so i wonder if that part of the conversation was actually filmed? Would be interesting if the rest of the conversation, including the bit about Luke's Mother, ever surfaced.
