The 2004 DVDs will be Limited Edition! No more to be produced after Dec 2004!

Yep, you heard it right. Just like the original trilogy VHS were not made after a certain date so will the 2004 DVDs that will be out in a few weeks.

I first came across this when I was thinking of placing an order with these people, who I normally get alot of my DVDs from.

http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/226943

Note the red italic writing: "Please Note - This is a limited release and will be discontinued by Fox before Christmas! Pre-order now to secure your copy!"

So I contacted EzyDVD, and they said they weren't told the reason, but gave me 20th Century Fox distribution number for Australia.

I called them, and the girl from Sales told me that legally LucasFilm has 100% rights and control of the Star Wars movies and simply uses Fox as their distributor. Duh, we all knew that. She says they received word from their Head Office informing them that LucasFilm is only going to produce a set amount of this boxset for the entire world, and legally they can do it, and Fox have no say in the matter, even though they'd like to make as many copies possible, as they know this will be one of their biggest sellers.

Now as a DVD and Star Wars fan, I know this can mean mostly one thing. George/LucasFilm is gonna release a 6 Disc Set, possibly towards the end of next year after ROTS has had its run at the cinemas etc.

For all those interested, who may be skeptical please by all means contact your local Fox Movies distributor and ask.

P.S. Can LucasFilm get any more gay? lol

they said the same thing about the E.T dvd when it was released and 2 years down the track there are still plenty of copies floating around dirt cheap (at least in Australia anyway!), they may stop production at Christmas, but that doesn't mean that they won't flood the market with copies, I think it's just a big marketing beat up in the lead up to X-mas, It'll be a huge seller, but I wouldn't get into a panic about it selling out, there'll be plenty of Star wars for everyone!

"Lucas is too smart for that" is what an Ezy DVD manager told me a week or so ago whilst yarning with me. Not only is it a limited release, it's been distributed in limited runs. A limited run means Ezy DVD was only allowed to buy a certain number of boxsets. I think I was told about 10,000. Obviously they'll be allowed to get more before Dec so long as they're allocated another quota.

Oh, and I get new Australian DVDs online from Video Ezy DVD (not to be confused with EzyDVD), which give free nationwide postage on all their orders. Their price for the boxset Is very good - especially when you consider that includes postage pre-ordered or not. They're also using a more legitimate image, of the Australian box (note that the box says The Office of Film & Literature Classification has not yet classified the DVDs; they have been now and are classified PG). Of course I'm not going to buy THAT DVD, but anyone else looking to get the cheapest price on it in Australia anyway - there it is.

Hmmm...

So now Hayden giving Luke the "Hello Sailor" come hither look in ROTJ makes sense.

Excellent changes Lucas, you've finally cracked the elusive Pink market of Star Wars fans.

Now openly gay but secretly Star Wars fans everywhere can 'come out of the closet'.

Wow how did we get onto this?

"There is good in him, I've felt it."

"The last time I felt it, was in the presence of my old master."

"In time you will call me master."

"If only you knew the power of the dark side!"

"Back door, huh? Good idea!"

"You've got something jammed in here real good."

"Look at the size of that thing!"

"In you must go."

"And I thought they smelled bad... on the outside."

"Get in there you big furry oaf, I don't care WHAT you smell!"

"There's an awful lot of moisture in here."

"Mudhole? SLIMY?"

"The circle is now complete."

"Pull out Wedge, you can't do any more good back there!"

"Grab me, Chewie. I'm slipping -- hold on. Grab it, almost...you almost got it. Gently now, all right, easy, easy, hold me, Chewie. Chewie!"

"Would it help if I got out and pushed?"

"Luke, at that speed do you think you'll be able to pull out in time?"

"Possible he came in through the south entrance."

"You're all clear kid. Now let's blow this thing and go home!"

"It didn't go in. It just impacted on the surface."

"Control, control...You must learn control."

"Sorry about the mess..."

"I thought that hairy beast would be the end of me!"

"Hey, Luke, thanks for coming after me -- now I owe you one."

Han Solo even sounds like a gay porn name.

Bow Chicka Bow Chicka Wahwahwahwahwahh! Bow Chicka Bow Chicka Wahwahwahwahwahwahh!!

"Hey there kid I'm Han Solo and this hairy Bear is Chewie, we've come to fix your Hyperdrive, I hear it's been... leaking. Is it hot in here?"

Got two words for y'all - holy crap. That's amazing.

Thanks

I can't add anything to that, but Vader does say straight up "I have felt him" in ROTJ.

Limited Edition just means the amount of time. There have always been more than enough copies to go around. The rest just get recalled after the time period expires.

And don't worry about finding copies after the sale period... there will be plenty in your local used DVD store and online at Amazon Marketplace and eBay once people realize what they bought.

and Darth Vader was just a big ole Leather Daddy and sometimes his Sabre was pink.

Just out of curiosity does anyone have any news about promotional tie-ins that are being done with the release of the DVD in their local territory? We've seen the different limited edition packaging at HMV and that cool black box that's been offered in the U.K, I've asked a few retailers in Melbourne Australia if they are offering anything in the way of a limited edition promotion, all I've manged to find is that Toy's R Us are offering a free double pack of those new playschool cutesy versions of the Star wars characters on all pre-orders , It'd be interesting to find out what is being done around the world to mark the release.

Only thing I have heard of so far is that here in the states our "Best Buy" stores will include the "R2 Beneath the Dome" DVD with the first "x" copies sold at their store.

Anyone heard of anything else here in the U.S. ?

This limited edition thing... isn't such a thing good for us? Less copies being sold?

No. GL does this with nearly all his SW releases. They're all LE and he floods the market with them. Like I said, "limited" only refers to time and not quantity. Maybe it will lose some sales because it's not there forever and a day. But the demand for SW on DVD is so great that if people are ever going to buy it, it will be within the first couple months or so. Surely before Christmas comes around. After that, it's just the stragglers. They can buy it used online or in used bricks and mortar stores.

Well Rattlesnake, I don't know about a 6 disc box per se...but Kershner and Lowry have both mentioned work on a HD project for release of the OT on HD-DVD/Blu-ray that will have restored deleted scenes. I am hoping that means the original of how Han shoots greedo and all the scenes he messed up.

less copies... I highly doubt it.... if anything the market will probably be saturated with it.

I am sure you will probably be able to pick the set up at any store right up to the point to which GL releases his Extra Super Definititve Edition. You just know he isn't done yet.... the computer screens and holograms from the OT don't match the Prequels... you know he has more changes up his sleeves.

What about "From Star Wars to Jedi" and all of the other specials? You just know there will be a new "definitive" and expensive version to follow.

You know how George has been with the VHS... new "limited" edition sets out to fill the shelves as soon as all old stock has been bought up.

If anything, this set will probably be limited in terms of printing, however, so many will be made that the market will be saturated. Then, George will probably start selling each movie as separate DVDs.... maybe even with tickets in them for Episode III. Then of course there will be the six movie boxed set and then the individual DVD repacks and then maybe the utlra limited super duper definitive edition... of course further followed by individual DVD repacks.

I think Disney and George both agree that "limited" is only "limited" to current "versions".... add some bling bling and you've got a new DVD

EDIT: I need to learn to type faster

aRG!

i knew he was going to do this shit!
well i dont know if anyone knows this or has picked up on it but its a pure Lucas marketing move... and i knew he would stoop to it

now that he has labelled this a limited edition...
those who were skeptical on buying it will now purchase it without a doubt....
hell even those who dont want it are going to prolly get a copy because its being called a limited edition...
they think if i get one ill prolly be able to sell it down the road... or it may be worth some money because its a limited edition....

i learned all about this shit in school and i never thought i would actually thought i would see proof of it...
so stay strong and dont buy this monstrosity he calls the Star Wars trilogy....

cause i only know one Star Wars trilogy... and Han doesnt wait to be shot at in mine!!

I'm glad that the 2004 DVD garbage is limited. Don't worry though. They made so many copies, that there will still be some sitting on store shelves collecting dust. Remember how long we saw the Episode I Collector's Edition or whatever it was called VHS sitting around. That was limited too.

I'm still not buying the DVD's. Too many other great DVD's out there to save money for. Others may have caved, but I have not. My feelings are too strong. I also will not be attending any Episode III screening in theaters. I'll wait until it hits home video and someone rents it. People really don't believe me when I say that, but believe it. I disliked Episode I, hated Episode II with a passion (didn't even pick up the DVD), and plan to get rid of my Episode I DVD.

I really don't like Lucas very much anymore.

Shouldn't that be called the Extra Super Defective Edition? I consider them defective since they aren't the original versions.

I doubt that. Most people don't care enough about the changes.

Although.... it would be very convenient if I could find a used copy.
