I don't buy the financial argumment for a second.
TPM:3D took an additional $102,727,119 worldwide. Now that's a release of a Star Wars film everybody hates, in a format everybody hates. Imagine if the fully restored ESB that everybody loves was released in a format everybody loves like 70mm on iMAX screens = A licence to print money
ESB returned it's entire production budget (and more) in a single weekend in 1997.
Scorcese's Film Foundation quotes full restorations as costing hundreds of thousands of dollars not hundreds of millions. But again even if the restoration costs 10 or 20 million dollars. They would make that back in a day!
