It's 'should have'...NOT 'should of '.

Anyway, the scene should have had Vader mumbling under his breath, with a few curse words slipping out.

Thanks for correcting me. I've changed it to the correct structure.

Now for Vader's curse words. Vader could have said "Bring my mother-f@%$ing shuttle. Alert the crew of my f#%@ing Star Destroyer to get their asses together and prepare for my goddamn arrival." LOL. And now imagine Vader saying, "No. I am your damn father! The midi-chlorians blood tests prove it. Now stop playing on that damn windpipe and go study your goddamn history."

I think this was the moment I started to wonder if George had lost his mind.  The change was so bizarrely trivial, and hacked up the music score in such an ugly way, that I was simply dumbfounded.

"Jedi Rocks" (and the new celebration music) confirmed to me that George had lost his mind.

That’s impossible, even for a computer.

The shot of the shuttle leaving bespin and flying towrds the executor does not mess up the music...

The other 2 shots Boarding and getting off on the deathstar are horrible, ridiculous and mess up the music entirely.

We all agree with you, but there is a way to edit the music and not have it sound all weird and full of bad cuts.

My understanding is that the redub was not JEJ recording a new line, but rather a discarded line originally intended for ANH.

I'm sorry, but that "Alert my Star Destroyer..." voice is in no way James Earl Jones's. It sounds nothing like JEJ's voice but rather a 'JEJ wannabe', no matter how strong were the official reports. To my ear, (I would say that) Jones's tone and voice modulation changes from ANH to TESB to ROTJ. In ANH. it resembles more to Jones's voice in Jesus Of Nazareth.

Just my two cents.

The chase scene originally had a constant, uninterrupted momentum which was mirrored in the soundtrack in a perfect marriage of music and directing. But George Lucas didn't direct the chase scene, and he has no sensitivity to the awkward effect his insertions have on the scene's rhythm. When you watch the end result, it's obvious that someone who didn't direct the movie has inserted shots into another director's work. That doesn't excuse Lucas's decision though, because you don't have to be the director of "The Empire Strikes Back" to perceive that the insertions break the rhythm.

Just to clarify where I'm coming from here, my main reason for having an issue with this is my love of the soundtrack, not the directing of the scene. Years before the special editions were ever released, I listened to the soundtracks a million times, and the specific rhythmic track for this chase scene was one of my favorite tracks. I listened to it enough to have every note burned into my brain, and got very attached to hearing it unbroken in the movie just like it was on the CD. When I first experienced the loss of that in the special edition it bothered me greatly.

This is one of the many examples of how things that fans care about are not things that Lucas cares about.

And whether or not that new voice is James Earl Jones, it does NOT sound acceptable.

The original starter of this thread discussion mentioned Vader's emotional state and how it relates to the dialogue; honestly that's one detail that I never thought of and it isn't one of the issues for me, but I find it to be an interesting perspective. I'm surprised he mentioned that as an issue but didn't mention the sound of Vader's voice in the new version.

One more thing - aren't the special edition changes supposed to be things they didn't have the money and/or technology for in 1980? You're telling me they didn't have the money/technology to have James Earl Jones say "alert my star destroyer to prepare for my arrival"? Or that those extra shots of the shuttle and Vader's arrival weren't possible? They don't require cgi like the enhanced Mos Eisley shots. This scene is only one of many examples that disproves the argument that the special edition changes are justified because they couldn't be done with 80's technology.

Someone uploaded the "Bring My shuttle" to you tube and it's now been taken down. I looked for it the other day

How wrong is that and it was a poor quality VHS Transfer too

This is why I have a love-hate relationship with YouTube. Hell, they blocked a video I'd uploaded that was just a copy of another YouTube video someone else had uploaded only played backwards.

I will always call BS on that. No one uses the word "stardestroyer" in the movie, and Vader never left his ship that he would need to alert it to prepare for it! He starts on the SD, moves to the Blockade Runner, is on the Death Star, then on his TIE Fighter. Where would "Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival" fit in? When he left the Blockade Runner? I know the rough cuts were long, but that's ridiculous.

Although I agree - I never believed the line was a leftover from A New Hope either - no-one refers to Leia's ship as a blockade runner either in the film and I don't remember the term TIE fighter being used either. So, the line could easily have been in the script and could easily have been said in the movie...however, the voice that reads that line in this added scene does not sound like James Earl Jones. That's what clinches it for me. It doesn't even sound like (god help us) David Prowse.

That's some bad hat, Harry

Just opinion but yeah 'Bring my shuttle' is way better. Fits better as mentioned before that he is angry over Luke slipping way from him. Why wouldn't he be? And really I just find it awkward having outtake footage of Vader from ROTJ where he exits his shuttle and we clearly see Commander Jerjerrod standing before him and even beginning his dialogue! Again just opinion.

YES! That infuriated me, too. One of the most effective lines in the trilogy, one that really made you feel the anger, frustration, and disgust, one that forced upon us the sense that something VERY important just happened, and they TAKE IT OUT! George, STOP!!!!!!!!PLEASE!!!!!!!!
