It was going to be kept secret until the Christmas special, hence the false report that Matt had signed for the 8th series. But BBC worldwide sent out an email to its clients , which leaked, stating that season 8 will return with a new doctor for a 12 episode run in august 2014. So we're not even getting a split season next year so only 2 episodes in over a year? They're really trying to kill this show off. People are losing interest, not only because of the crap stories of late, but the fact of the split season/ log gaps.

If it's coming back in August 2014 for 12 episodes that means we get 12 episodes not 2.

We have 2 between then (the Anniversary and Christmas specials) but we had slightly more than half a season before that already.

If I had my way we would have a full series leading up to Christmas. Autumn is the right time to start showing Doctor Who, as the nights get darker and colder.

yeh, you're reading it wrong ;) we get just two episodes between now and when the show will return in August 2014 for a full 12 episodes
