Guys, I don't know whether I can help. I regularly use Handbrake to convert my blu rays and DVDs into compressed h264 mkvs passing through the original dts aor ac3 audio. Blu rays to about 4GB and DVDs to about 1GB. Using Handbrake (free opensource) the latest codecs are used and quality is really awesome, much better than even a couple of years ago. I prefer it to having to keep changing my discs etc.

The files play brilliantly on htpcs, computers, and most media players. I also usually do a separate conversion for my smart phone use.

There's nothing special about what I do, it's mostly standard Handbrake recommendations, but it really seems the fanedit community is pushing uncompressed video and getting less exposure because of that, if I can help providing samples etc please let me know.

Just to clarify what I'm suggesting is it might be easier for fans to share edits if there were less storage space involved, although I concede that may not be the issue, I don't know much about this stuff.
